Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Chocolate

San Juan Sea Salt Truffle Bar by Seattle Chocolates- 2.5 oz, value $3.50

Chocolate Almond Smackaroon- value $1.30

I absolutely love the packaging on this chocolate bar! It’s decorated with a fish motif, which I’m assuming is a reference to Seattle’s salmon fishing industry and ubiquitous fish markets. The chocolate itself was great and a nice balance of sweet and salty. Each bite of creamy milk chocolate was filled with little pieces of crunchy toffee.

The smackaroon was kind of like a cookie/ coconut macaroon hybrid. The smackaroons are made with pecans to complement the coconut flavor and finished with a dip in Belgian dark chocolate.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Pop

Kiss Me I'm Irish Cake Pop (in Red Velvet) by Sweet E's Bake Shop- value $3.75

I’m so glad that OrangeGlad included something green for St. Patrick’s Day! This is only my second box, but I like that they seem to include festive treats whenever possible. This was a red velvet cake pop, and the combination of red velvet cake and white icing gave me a major grade school flashback to these.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Russian

Russian Tea Cakes by Lark's Fine Foods

Russian teacakes are also known as “snowball cookies,” “Italian wedding cookies,” and “Mexican wedding cookies.” According to the OrangeGlad info card, the origin of these nutty, buttery cookies is unknown, but I think it’s interesting that they’re a part of so many different cultures. Traditionally, they’re rolled in powdered sugar while they’re still warm and then again after they’re cool. This particular version was excellent. Here’s a closeup:

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – March 2015 TeaCakes

They were small, flaky, and absolutely delicious.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Shortbread

Itty Bitties by OrangeGlad

These little shortbread bites had nice flavor, but my Scottish husband (a self-professed shortbread expert) insisted that they were too soft. They definitely weren’t crunchy like most of the shortbread I’ve had before, but I still enjoyed them. I also really liked how they were cut into tiny bite-sized pieces. I’m not sure why, but small food really is more fun to eat.

Verdict: This was my second OrangeGlad box, and I’m happy with it overall. I love the curation of the box; everything was delicious, and I like that they included a cake pop covered in shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The packaging is also top notch, which makes the box a joy to unwrap. It’s difficult to determine an overall value for the products included, since everything isn’t available online, but I don’t think the total value of the items meets or exceeds the cost of the box. I think this box is more about discovering new goodies than it is about getting a great deal, which is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about subscribing.

What do you think of March’s OrangeGlad Sweet Box?

I just blogged about this box so I calculated the value of the items. The macaroon, cake pop, tea cookies and chocolate bar together come up to $10. The shortbread cookies are not for sale, as far as I can see, but shortbread is expensive so I’d give them a $5 value.

So if you can get a subscription for $13 a box, the value is there. Not at $22, though.

I got my first box and have to admit I wasn’t impresses. The truffle chocolate bar was to die for but the other items tasted stale. The value just didn’t seem to be there either.

I just got the April box, and I think it’s much tastier than the March box.

I got this sub with the Black Friday deal and I have been absolutely loving every box! I would definitely recommend waiting for a deal to bring down the price, but I honestly would probably still pay full price for it. I love discovering new sweets from small businesses around the country that I otherwise never would have known about.

I also loved seeing Smackaroons this month. They’re from Philadelphia and I’ve seen them around the city and tried their smackaroons before. I loved them then and it was nice being reminded of how wonderful they are now.

I like this box but unfortunately I would not be able to eat most of the food in this box. If I could I would be tempted to get this box.

This is my favorite subs I think of all of them that I get. I love the sweets, the surprise that you don’t know what you’re getting. The packaging is the most beautiful and adorable ever. This box was just missing the bow around the white box. I ate the shortbread cookies as soon as I opened it, they were delicious!! They were soft and buttery, so amazing. I bought a sub at a discounted price then got a 2nd one on Black Friday, I would definitely pay full price for this box. The packaging alone, supporting small businesses, the treats that I normally wouldn’t have discovered on my own. Love it!

I have been a longtime subscriber to this sub. It was my favorite sub until they changed the packaging. I love and miss the beautiful way everything was packaged. I have not liked the box since then . I honestly think the products seem less too. I love sweets and was so excited to get this. When It arrives I feel so ripped off paying 20 plus dollars for what I am getting. I will not be renewing my sub sadly since the current packaging doesn’t do it for me. My main problem lately is with the value. When I first started getting the sub the value was there.

Everything was delicious and I am ashamed to say I ate it all right away… :-/

Orange Glad has quickly become one if my favorite boxes! However when there is a month that I don’t love everything, then I am upset about the cost….that being said, for the past several months I’ve loved everything in my monthly sweet box! They kicked it up with Novembers box, and have been rocking it ever since!

Just posted this on the wrong month…so will repost here. I used SPRING30 to get 30% off a sub…works out to $13 and change for a 6 month sub, I’m excited. Definitely worth that!

Thanks for sharing the code, Emily! 🙂

I signed up for this box last month when they had their 40% off coupon. I received my box and was surprised how they have redesigned their boxes. I had previously been a subscriber in the summer and while the new packaging is nice, it doesn’t even compare to their previous packaging. It was the nicest box I have ever received. That being said, the desserts I received this month were much better than when I was a previous subscriber. I hope they are putting more emphasis on the treats now than on the packaging. That is where the value is. I loved everything in this month’s box.

This is my first Orange Glad box. It’s okay, but I don’t like it as much as I would have liked last month’s box. I plan to eat one item a day with tea in the afternoon. I’ll split some of the items (e.g.the chocolate bar) with a coworker. I’m not sure if I’ll continue subscribing. This box is worth about $15 to me, maaaybe $17 if I am splurging.

I’ve tried a decent amount of subscription boxes. Most for the 3 month subscription. Popsugar and Orange Glad were the only two boxes I’ve kept.

I agree with everyone. All the cookies, chocolate, etc. were wonderful and the cake pop was my favorite. The serving sizes (with the exception of the chocolate) are really just for one person. Translation: It doesn’t last more than a day or two. And at the regular price, it’s honestly not worth it for me. But I loved EVERY SINGLE BITE!!!

I loved the items in the box, and as I got the box for $7 by using a $15 off coupon, I can’t complain. But I wouldn’t pay $22 for it. There weren’t enough treats to justify it.

Add me to the list that tried it with the discount code and then unsubscribed because of low value.

I think this type of box is hard for someone to do for profit. Because it’s fresh food, the cheapo shipping can’t be used and that adds to the cost of the box but doesn’t give visible value to the customer per se.

I agree. I loved everything, but I would never pay full price for this box. I also paid $7 and would pay in $15 range, but not more. Nicely packaged and yummy treats, but portions too small for regular price.

I feel exactly the same! It was worthwhile to try it out with the coupon, but I cancelled after getting the box. I don’t know, I was kind of shocked at the cost for what you get.

I liked everything in this box! They could just leave off the ‘enjoy by’ date for me – everything was gone by the next day!! 🙂
