San Juan Sea Salt Truffle Bar by Seattle Chocolates- 2.5 oz, value $3.50
Chocolate Almond Smackaroon- value $1.30
I absolutely love the packaging on this chocolate bar! It’s decorated with a fish motif, which I’m assuming is a reference to Seattle’s salmon fishing industry and ubiquitous fish markets. The chocolate itself was great and a nice balance of sweet and salty. Each bite of creamy milk chocolate was filled with little pieces of crunchy toffee.
The smackaroon was kind of like a cookie/ coconut macaroon hybrid. The smackaroons are made with pecans to complement the coconut flavor and finished with a dip in Belgian dark chocolate.
Kiss Me I'm Irish Cake Pop (in Red Velvet) by Sweet E's Bake Shop- value $3.75
I’m so glad that OrangeGlad included something green for St. Patrick’s Day! This is only my second box, but I like that they seem to include festive treats whenever possible. This was a red velvet cake pop, and the combination of red velvet cake and white icing gave me a major grade school flashback to these.
Russian Tea Cakes by Lark's Fine Foods
Russian teacakes are also known as “snowball cookies,” “Italian wedding cookies,” and “Mexican wedding cookies.” According to the OrangeGlad info card, the origin of these nutty, buttery cookies is unknown, but I think it’s interesting that they’re a part of so many different cultures. Traditionally, they’re rolled in powdered sugar while they’re still warm and then again after they’re cool. This particular version was excellent. Here’s a closeup:
They were small, flaky, and absolutely delicious.
Itty Bitties by OrangeGlad
These little shortbread bites had nice flavor, but my Scottish husband (a self-professed shortbread expert) insisted that they were too soft. They definitely weren’t crunchy like most of the shortbread I’ve had before, but I still enjoyed them. I also really liked how they were cut into tiny bite-sized pieces. I’m not sure why, but small food really is more fun to eat.
Verdict: This was my second OrangeGlad box, and I’m happy with it overall. I love the curation of the box; everything was delicious, and I like that they included a cake pop covered in shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The packaging is also top notch, which makes the box a joy to unwrap. It’s difficult to determine an overall value for the products included, since everything isn’t available online, but I don’t think the total value of the items meets or exceeds the cost of the box. I think this box is more about discovering new goodies than it is about getting a great deal, which is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about subscribing.
