Scentbird Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Box

Scentbird is a perfume sampling subscription box that sends you 100% authentic perfumes every month. When you sign up, you take a preferences quiz to help them suggest recommendations for you to try, and you can also go browse and rate the rest of their selection to make the recommendations even more accurate. You can build a queue of fragrances you’d like to try or you can let yourself be surprised every month.

Because this subscription is so heavily personalized, the fragrance I selected to review this month is only one of a large number other subscribers may have received.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Scentbird

The Cost: $14.95/monthly, $14.50/month with a 3-month plan, $14/month with a 6 month plan, or $13.50/month with a year plan.

The Products: One 8 ml spray atomizer of a 100% authentic perfume

Along with the fragrance you receive each month, Scentbird also includes a card describing the “perfume of the month” for the next month.

With your first month’s delivery, you receive a perfume case that fits your 8 ml sprays inside – this card details how to use it!

This is the purse spray case you get with your first month, with the sample vial inside. You can see it closed (top) and open (bottom). I have to say that this is what makes this subscription for me. The case is has a nice weight, is sleek, and feels high quality. It’s easy to open and close, and to switch perfumes you just open the case, pull the vial out, and place the next one inside!

The fragrance I selected this month is Si by Giorgio Armani. It has notes of Chypre, Blackcurrant Nectar, Airy Florals Vanilla, Patchouli, and Musky Blond Wood.

I like this fragrance okay. I had smelled it at a store before ordering it from Scentbird, so I was familiar with it. This fragrance is sweet and seems a little heavy to me – something that can work for Fall and Winter. Vanilla is a note I generally like a lot in fragrances, but the patchouli (which is a really common pairing with vanilla) tends to come out strongly when it’s sprayed on my skin, which I’m not a huge fan of.

A .34 oz/10 ml rollerball of this fragrance sells for $28, so this .27 oz/8 ml spray is worth about $22.40. The sample size Scentbird sends is enough for a month of use, with two applications a day.

Verdict: I really enjoy Scentbird. I love that I can trust that the fragrances they send to be authentic and that I can get such a good deal on the amount of fragrance I get! I also feel like this is an excellent option for people who want to explore the world of fragrance even if they’re not very familiar or practiced with identifying notes or knowing how to describe the kinds of perfumes they like. Their website is easy to use and search, has detailed descriptions about each perfume, and provides you with lots of recommendations based on your tastes.

It’s awesome that Scentbird offers designer brands and scents I recognize and want to try, even though it doesn’t seem like they have some super-new releases (however, if you email them requesting a fragrance, they probably already have plans to add it – and they bump it up in priority according to requests for it!). All in all, I’m really happy with this sub.

Scentbird has the greatest customer service! My January selection did not spray well and they promptly responded to my email and sent out a replacement. The best part is that they included a hand written apology note with the replacement! That is really going above and beyond for subscription box customer service.

I just tried to sign up for this box, but the subscribe section was not cooperating. The link seems to be broken. I sent an email to them and received an acknowledgement. I’ll advise what’s up when I hear back from them.

Update: I agree that their customer service is great. The sign up problem was fixed, and I’m due to receive my fragrance today! Once again, thanks to Mysubscriptionaddiction.com I’m trying things I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.
