The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Batty

Every box contains an info card that lists each item featured, and this month they also threw in a cute, hand-written card from the team.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Info

Here’s a close-up of the info card. This month, there’s a “musician of the month” and “Spratx featured artist of the month” listed. I’m not sure if this means they’ll be including a CD and a print from an artist every month or not, but it’s something new on the card that I noticed.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Cozy

Spratx Featured Artist of the Month: Mouf, “Never Quit” Print – value: $25

Blue Sparrow Cozie – value: $5.95

This print is interesting – I like the style a lot, so I’ll probably find a place to display it. I’m not sure what it has to do with “Never Quitting” but I know it’s art, and everyone sees and feels different things with every piece of art.

Drink cozies are something we never, ever use so this one will be passed along to a friend!

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Lipbalm

Black Stallion Cufflinks – value: $40

Austin Honey Company Vanilla Lip Balm – value: $3

I think cufflinks were an interesting inclusion in this box – unfortunately, I’m not sure they’re really anything my husband will get much use out of, so maybe I’ll try and swap these.

This lip balm is great! It’s made with almond oil, beeswax, honey, and vanilla so I’m thrilled with the simple ingredient list. I know it says its vanilla flavored, but I couldn’t personally smell any vanilla. That’s fine, though because I like just having a plain lip balm on hand.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Crave

Natalie Zoe, “The High Road” Album – value: $10

Crave Artisan Chocolate Bark – value: $8.50

This musician, unfortunately, isn’t my taste, but I think a friend of mine might like it.

This chocolate is my favorite thing in the box!

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Chocolate

The chocolate has music notes printed on the back of it. It tastes like dark chocolate and has what I think is some kind of salted toffee bits mixed in it. It’s delicious.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Mooncat

MoonCat Designs Keychain – value: $11

I can’t find this specific keychain for sale on their site, but it’s a guitar pick and a couple glass beads. Personally, I’m not sure I agree on the $11 value they have on the card, but maybe that really is what they sell this keychain for.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 hope

HOPE Farmers Market Poster – value: $10

This poster is interesting. I’m not sure why it says “August” on top, but the whole thing definitely makes me miss summer and actually being able to go to farmers markets here in Michigan!

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Swag

Each Austin BatBox has a “swag” envelope that contains little things like stickers, business cards, coupons, etc.

The Austin BatBox Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Pen

Here’s what this month’s “swag” envelope contained: a pack of matches, a guitar pick, an Independence Brewing Co. Sticker, a pen, and a button and postcard for the HOPE farmers market.

Verdict: Personally, I’m not exactly thrilled with this Austin BatBox. The value adds up to over $103, which is a great value, but I won’t use the CD, drink cozie, or the cufflinks which takes away $56 of the value and leaves me with a lip balm, some chocolate, a small keychain, and a small piece of art I’m not specifically crazy about. I know the point of this box is to feature small businesses and cool artists and things in Austin, but I’m not sure I feel like this box gives me that feeling much. Overall, I’m alright with this box and I’m definitely happy with the value, but I’m looking forward to seeing what future boxes have to offer.

I definitely hope to one day travel to Austin and experience some of the amazing things, businesses, and artists they have there. I feel like having a personal experience there would give me a more personal appreciation of the curation for this box – as I’m sure subscribers who are previous residents of Austin feel.

I loved this box so much! Mine came with a gold keychain!!! I love gold! The beads are amethyst & Quartz, it says on the back of the card that the keychain came on & that they are limitededition. So maybe that’s why they aren’t on the website, but I’m going make a necklace out of mine! Totally agree the chocolate was my fave part.

I live in Austin and have never heard of these brands/retailers. I wouldn’t consider this a very good representation of Austin….these are just things that you can get anywhere from local artists.

I’d buy the coozie off you Hayley! I can’t seem to find it on their website! My BFF just moved from Austin, and had her engagement pics in front of the “I love you so much” wall, and I think that’d be a great reminder for her!

I’m originally from Austin and recently moved out of state. Personally I would LOVE this box as a way to remind me of “home,” and would keep subbing in hopes some of my favorite ATX businesses would appear.

I live in Austin, so see a lot of these things sold at art shows and farmers markets etc. The whole “Keep Austin Weird” expression/logo is to support small businesses and of course local artists, so I see this as a neat collection of that. If you’re into that kind of stuff, I do think the price point of this box is good. It probably would cost a lot to buy up this stuff at the markets. I may keep an eye on this box to see if I want to sub in the future. But yes, we don’t use cufflinks here either, so that being the big ticket item, would be a waste for me. But I kinda dig the rest of the stuff!!

I’m not from Austin but have visited many times, the “I love you so much” phrase is graffiti painted on a wall and lots of people take a photo in front of! I think having visited or lived there would help with the enjoyment of this box. But I like reading your reviews of it!
