Tea Box Express Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Scones

Teapigs Earl Grey Strong – 15 tea bags, value: $9.99

Sticky Fingers Original Scone Mix – 15 oz, value: $5.99

Does it get more English than Earl Grey tea and scones? These tea bags are biodegradable, which is nice, and the scone mix seems really easy to make!

Tea Box Express Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Cream

The Devon Cream Company Luxury Clotted Cream – 1 oz, value: $2.19

Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserves – value: $.69

Stainless Steel Bell Creamer (3 oz?) – value: $1.89

The preserves and clotted cream are meant to top the scones together. I hadn’t heard of clotted cream before, but apparently it’s best described as a mix between ice cream and butter! Definitely sounds interesting (and delicious!).

Verdict: I really liked this month’s Tea Box Express. I love that they are a tea subscription that doesn’t just send tea, but tea accessories as well. They hit the nail on the head with an English Tea Time theme, and I’m excited to try and use everything in this box! As far as value goes, everything adds up to $20.75 so it doesn’t quite break even with the value. Personally, though, I’m still pretty happy with the box overall because I love the theme and items so much.

What do you think about the January Tea Box Express?

This is so cute, I wish I drank more tea to justify buying it!

I just can’t get into this sub box. I don’t care for Earl Grey, so I would get no tea out of this tea box. I can buy all the other items at Cost Plus World Market for a few bucks.

The value isn’t there for me yet. I’ll keep checking future reviews on the box, but they haven’t wowed me on the last two.

Clotted cream is delicious on scones. If you were to go to a high tea in England, it would be served. Enjoy!

I had the most delicious tea and scones (with clotted cream and jam) ever in Bath. This looks fab!! I have recently gotten super into tea and have been thinking about finding a tea box to subscribe to.

As far as I know, all tea can go in a compost pile (which means it is biodegradable) with the exception of a metal staple. If a brand uses a metal staple, then you can just snip that part off and compost the rest of the bag.

The Devon Cream Company makes a very good clotted cream, they have it in the international section in my grocery. As for clotted cream in general it is sooooo good. I went to England in the fall, and was first introduced to clotted cream. The way most people do it over there, (and I loved it so much I took every opportunity I could to enjoy it. Including at Highclere Castle where they film Downton Abbey), is to put a thick layer of clotted cream on each side of the scone, and then strawberry preserves on top. It is delicious. Clotted cream is like a cross between whipped cream and butter, in my opinion. Enjoy!

I’ve been buying the Sticky Fingers mixes from Homegoods and it really is super easy to whip up a batch of scones.
As for how to eat them, the idea is to split the scone and layer each side with butter, then jam, then a dollop of clotted cream.
I make my scones about 2″ high, similar size as a biscuit, so that they’re easier to cut in half.
