Moxie Box Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Box

Moxie Box is a new subscription box from Moxie Boutique. I first found out about it about a month ago when they offered a Living Social deal, so I decided to sign up! (FYI – Living Social deal no longer available).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription.

Moxie Box Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Info

This box came with a card detailing the items included. I’m guessing the subscription isn’t as curated based on your style questionnaire as it was described on their site. (Or I could be wrong and they printed out different cards for different subscribers).

They also included a styling tips card for the tank included.

Moxie Box Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Tank

Statment Graphic Tank

Judging from the styling card included, I’m guessing this tank was probably sent in a few different variants to subscribers. I think the camera variation is fun, but it will definitely need to be layered – it is almost tissue paper thin!

Moxie Box Subscription Box Review – January 2015 Bracelet

I Love You Bangle

This bracelet was included as a pre-Valentine’s Day piece. I don’t wear bangles (they don’t mix well with being at a keyboard), so I’ll probably swap this.

Wear Me Now Studs

I like delicate gold jewelry, so I’m a fan of these, they do look a little rough up close though.

Verdict: I like the idea of this subscription, and it is just starting out, but I’m not sure if I would be happy with the value of this box if I had paid the full-price for this box instead of my Living Social deal. (I’m also not sure what the value of these items are since they aren’t branded).

What do you think of the January Moxie Box? If you subscribe, did you get the same items?

  1. Does anyone know if this subscribtion auto renew? It is last month of my LS voucher and I don’t remember if I had to put my credit card info or not..?

  2. Just received my box today and I’m confused. My box is different than the rest of yours in that in place of a tshirt I received a wallet. The wallet is awful and still has white sticker residue all over it. I’m upset I paid $15 for this box.

  3. I’m struggling to make any logical sense of this box… but I just can’t. It just seems extremely shady and unethical to tell people AFTER they’ve given you money that the value for the LS boxes with be less than normal. That is something that should have been made clear up front and is just horribly ignorant and stupid, not to mention blatantly dishonest, business practise. Why would you so awfully cheat the people who gave your new business a fair try and paid upfront? Having been actively involved in retail and wholesaling for just over 2 decades now, I can say without a doubt that there is NO WAY the retail value of these items are even close to $40! Especially since they (so far, with the exception of the candle I think) have been all cheap wholesale goods from China. The earrings, all of them I’ve seen posted so far, the plastic balls, glittery balls, even the metal ones, are all China wholesale that depending on volume (which surely for a cheap strip mall clubwear type “boutique” is bulk purchasing) factor out to likely below a dollar, even below .50 each!!! I go to and have been to national and international retail/wholesale conventions and have seen and dealt with this first hand. As many of you have stated, the other items are very low value as well. If anything, a small business like this should be putting way more of these cheap items in the boxes in an attempt to impress subbies, not scrooging people with under $5 worth of the leftover clearance crap that hasn’t moved in her store. It’s just not fair to take our money ahead and mislead us on value, knowing your intentions were to clear out the unsold merchandise in this way. And I’m not trying to be mean, but in all fairness the business owners responses are all very lacking in genuine sincerity and just seem like she refuses to own up. I mean just look at the fact that many have said they didn’t even take ANY of the preferences into consideration and there’s even people who never received their boxes without having to repeatedly contact the owner. This kind of greed and taking advantage of people will not ensure a successful business. I’m a huge fan of supporting small business and American made products and businesses, but to be so blatantly screwed over by shady business owners like this is so disappointing.

  4. Like a previous complaint I also told them I am a size XL and received a size medium shirt. My earrings are little green balls, which are similar to the cheap ball earrings I received in my last box. Those were so cheap I didn’t even bother putting them up for trade here. Of the three items in my box this month if I saw any of them at the dollar store I would not buy any of them. For someone who likes it the shirt is maybe a $5 value. I actually feel ripped off even with the discounted Living Social price I paid.

  5. I’m a little confused as to why they would consider a tank top a seasonally appropriate piece. I know it can be layered, but it seems a very summery item to me.

  6. I had previously posted this on the December review, but thought I would add it here as well:

“I posted a review of my Moxie Box to Living Social stating that I was happy with the box I received since it was discounted, but would have been disappointed if I had paid full price. I received the following response, which I appreciate. My primary objection is that if the Living Social subscription will differ from the regular subscription, I think that should be explicitly stated. If it was, I totally missed it; I don’t think it was!
“Hi Carrie– Thank you for the feedback! We are glad you loved the scarf! Just so you know, the full price boxes do differ from the living social boxes and get more expensive and detailed. All the living social boxes have a retail value starting at $40. I apologize for you getting two of the same pair of earrings, we should have distinguished them better on our end. That is something we are looking at going forward. I am a small business owner and started Moxie Box as a way to grow and compete with the big wigs out there so I appreciate the feedback as this is a new venture for us. Hopefully you enjoy your second box more than the first. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Cari Rogers Owner Moxie Boutique”
So, as stated, I appreciate the response and we will see going forward!”

Since then, I have received my January box, which was identical to Liz’s except I received the elephant tank. My tank had a hole near the tag. I contacted the owner and received a very prompt reply and quick replacement of the item. So, I am happy with the customer service, but stand by my original impression that the value is not there with this box. It would be interesting to see what is in a regular subscriber’s box, since the owner states that they are different.

  7. I signed up for this box as part of the Living Social deal and, honestly, I feel like I just want it to stop arriving at my house even before I get the last box included in the LS deal. Nothing was catered to my survey. Got the gold bangle when I said I prefer silver & got a size M tank when I told them I was an XL, so I can’t even wear it. I also don’t wear earrings and didn’t tealize they’d be part of each box. Very disappointing!

  8. The heart had broke off the bangle in my box. So sad. My shirt had a silhouette of a girl holding red balloons. It is cute. Not a fan of the earrings. Definitely not continuing my subscription after my 3 months are up.

  9. The fact that they misspelled January on the info card makes me not want to sign up!!!

  10. I also got a Living Social deal. This month I got an elephant tank top instead of the camera one. Honestly, I would not pay full price for this. It’s just a trinket box. Absolutely nothing of value to me personally. I will not be subscribing to it.

  11. I think the boxes are somewhat curated as I received the bangle and earrings in silver, which is my preference on my questionnaire.
The items do appear a little on the cheap side and, taking into account Julie’s bad experience, I’ll cancel after my 3 months Living Social deal is up.
Julie, I’d definitely take it up with Living Social if you’re not getting any joy from Moxie.

    • I put down I prefer silver jewelry, but got the bangle in gold.

I also will not be subscribing at full price. The value just isn’t there.

  12. I also bought my 3 month subscription with Living Social november 19th and then followed the instructions on Moxie website with the code etc. But i never received my boxes. I tried to communicate with them twice but no one answered my e-mails. Right now I wouldn’t recommend this box to anyone… Such a shame cause I love that camera tee… it’s one of my passion taking pictures with my Sony Cam!

    • Julie, they answer right away on Fb. One pair of earrings was missing from my first box. After receiving my second box I contacted them and the missing earrings will be put in my third box. The owner also told me the value is lower in Living Social boxes, will be higher in full price boxes. I like the top, it is cute. I got a palm tree design.

      • I did purchase a 3 month sub with Living Social, and I kind of assumed the deal was essentially an introductory deal for the box. To find out it’s a special low value box is a huge turn off. Especially considering it was never stated as such, and incredibly deceitful. I just assumed I wouldn’t be subbing again because I didn’t care for the value (overall dollar value, receiving the same earrings, quality, etc). Now I won’t because that’s just some shady business.

      • I also wrote on facebook yesterday (january 25th) and no answers yet) ?

      • How can they make the living social boxes a lower value?? That’s a total rip off. If anything they should be higher so that people would continue with a subscription. For $33 bucks I could go to Gordman’s and get a shirt and some jewelry.

    • That happened to me with Try the World. It really upsets me when these companies can’t prioritize customer service. Things happen, but how can you run a business without making sure the people who PAY for your service are getting what they pay for? It’s one thing to be disappointed in what you receive, since we all take that on ourselves by subscribing in a way, but not sending anything is just unacceptable. Even if you can eventually get a refund.
