Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Box

The Walmart Beauty Box is a new quarterly subscription box from Walmart. They feature brands you will find at Walmart, plus coupons.

FYI – I believe they ask for your birthday at sign up to customize the box based on age. (There may be other reasons for box variation as well). For reference, this is a box for a 30 year old.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Lipstick

Jergens BB Body Correcting Skin Cream – 1 oz Value $1.60

Mabelline Color Sensational Lip Stick in Maple Kiss (925) – FULL SIZE! Value $5

I’ve tried this BB Body Cream before thanks to subscription boxes. It is a lightweight lotion that absorbs quickly. My only issue with it is the scent. It’s a perfume like scent, that can be a little overpowering to me if I apply it all over my legs.

I lucked out on the color of this lipstick – it’s a good neutral shade for me. The finish isn’t too shiny either.

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Olay

OLAY Fresh Effects Everything Off! Deluxe Make-Up Removal Wet Cloths (7 Pack) – Value $1.25

Nivea Cocoa Butter Body Lotion – Sample

I’m never happy about tiny foil packet samples, but makeup remover wipes are always good!

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Shampoo

L’Oreal OleoTherapy Oil Infused Shampoo – 2 oz Value $1.50

L’Oreal OleoTherapy Oil Infused Conditioner – 2 oz Value $1.50

I was surprised to see that in addition to being sulfate free, these are also paraben free and vegan!

Walmart Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2014 Coupons

The box also came with a $1 off coupon for Maybelline and Nivea.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $11. The value isn’t as high as the first Walmart Beauty Box, but I think it is still pretty good for a $5 box. Do you subscribe to Walmart Beauty Box? What did you get this quarter?

  1. Just got my spring box. Once again, no make up in my spring “old lady box”. Forty somethings like some color too….For $5 though, it’s ok. There are a few things I am interested in trying.

    • I’m in my early 30’s and my Winter box which was my first that I purchased in January didn’t have any of the things pictured in 30 year old box. Apparently I’m in the “Trendsetter 2” category with the WM box people.

    • I just received my first box and it looks like it has left overs from the last box, I swapped for one last time and the only difference is:
      Bert Bees Firming Serum
Ken Paves Shampoo, Conditioner & Thickening Mask (foil packets)

      From the last box:
Loreal Shampoo & Conditioner Trial Size
      Cocoa Butter Lotion
      Lady Gaga Perfume Sample
Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil Sample

Maybe it’s because it’s my first box and they gave me items they had left, not sure, don’t see a charge either, so not sure what’s going on there.

Don’t get me wrong, for $5, it totally worth it, but I hope next time, I get something better!!

(maybe I should change my age), lol,,,i’m totally kidding.

I ordered one for my mom, I can’t wait to see what she gets for her age.

  2. I think that they did charge me when I placed the order.

  3. It was for me, of course! But you can only order one box per address.

    • Do they charge you right when you place the order?

  4. Yes, they are available. I just ordered one for my husband at his office

    • Do they have a men’s box?! I told my husband no. If they do I will definitely be ordering him one.

  5. Are wal mart spring boxes available now? Did I miss the post?

  6. I was charged on March 9th and March 18th…I’m assuming that I just eeked in for winter and the second charge was spring?? I haven’t gotten any notification that either has shipped..
When I try to log in it says “Our Box site can currently support only one themed Sample Boxes per email. Please use a different email address to proceed your subscription. We are working to support all Sample Boxes with a single email address.” and won’t let me sign on. Is anyone else having trouble?

    • I’m having the same issue when I try to sign in! I sent them an email about it but haven’t heard back yet…

    • I had the same issue. I did a reset password then I was able to sign in!

    • I had the same issue and emailed them but had no response. I eventually called and they said that it has been an issue that is happening to many people. When you first order and were billed the system was still registering the Winter box but they had sold out. Recently, they have been sending out the Spring box and switched the system which then recharged people. They are working on reversing those who were charged twice, but if you call they can put you on a sort of “priority” list.

    • I also had the same problem, called them, emailed them, no response! I called my bank and had them to reverse charges and also stopped them from anymore charges! I think this is a poor customer service from Walmarts side!!

      • I wasn’t able to log-in to my own account either – got the same message about using a different e-mail address. I’m not sure if I’ve been charged once or twice for the Spring Box. I’d better check my statement. Thanks for the heads up!

  7. My spring box shipped. It says Classic Wave 1.

  8. When do your first box ship out? I signed up and haven’t heard anything at all, email them 3 times and called still no reply. I have already been charged for a winter box.

  9. I just received my box (after a long wait) and I am very impressed. I got Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara, Hard Candy lip gloss,Dove hair oil, sample sized Neutrogena face cleanser and sample(Loreal and John Frieda)shampoos and conditioners. The mascara alone was worth the $5. The Dove oil is my new favorite and I’ll be purchasing it as soon as I run out.

    • I am still waiting for my second box. Not happy with the service at all.

  10. I got charged for my 2nd box on 01/12/2015, I thought they said they wouldn’t charge you until it was to be shipped (not counting the 1st box) I haven’t received any update on it, is this happening to anyone else?

    • What did Walmart Beauty say when you contacted them?

      • I called 5-6 times and even left a voicemail. I haven’t heard anything from them: I resorted to sending an “I need answers” email… More of a give me my box or my money.

        • I called again yesterday, it seems like this same guy always answers, made me feel like this is a scam. He said he will make a note of the situation and someone should get back to me soon. I think I am going to cancel this subscription because it just does not feel right.

    • I have not received my box either. Called them and they never got back to me. Trying to reach them now but can’t find the number.

  11. I haven’t gotten my box yet but they want a review so here it is – no box no review, but I’m really looking forward to what it will contain!

  12. For $5/quarter, I’m pretty happy with my box. I wouldn’t get it once a month, but four times a year is great. I like all the things I received. I got a full size Covergirl Outlast Lip Color in Wine to Five ($7.94), Pond’s Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream ($2.24), Dove Deep Moisture body wash ($1), Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture shampoo ($1), Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture conditioner ($1), Pond’s Clean Sweep Original Cleansing Towelettes, 5 count ($0.78), and a single-ish use sample of Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder, plus a $1 coupon. I come up with a value close to $14, and I get to try some stuff I wouldn’t have normally purchased. Thumbs up!

    • I got the same box today! I love it! I absolutely love that cover girl outlast lip color. It stayed on my lips all day and even through meals. It’s inredible! The smell of the ponds wrinkle cream is nauseating, so I won’t be using that. Also, I got dove shampoo and conditioner for fine, flat hair. I have super thick full hair. So I will probably give that away. But I really like the body wash, it just smells clean. I’m happy with my box, the lip color alone was worth more than the $5. Plus I have the wipes and the body wash, and the powder sample.

  13. NOT WORTH IT. This was my first and most probably my last box. This isn’t even worth the $5.00. (You can get these samples for free on internet) I’m 32 and received foil packets & lipstick. If they would’ve at least sent what the PICTURE SHOWED It would’ve been worth it for the deodorant at least. DO NOT RECOMMEND

    • I’m 40 and did not receive a single foil packet. I got 6 items that I will use up and enjoy – five deluxe samples and a full-size lipstick duo. I thought it was a great deal – but I guess the foil packets would be a disappointment. Still, $5 every three months is nothing. Think of all the money you spend every week. I love the nice, sturdy box and the excitement of trying things I wouldn’t have bought otherwise. Some people here said negative things about the “old lady” selections, and suggested changing your age in the profile. But if what I got represents what my age group will typically get, then I’m happy to be an “old lady”.

      • Dean, I am glad your box was outstanding. However, there is no standard of quality for these boxes — no matter what age you give Walmart. I received 2 boxes that consisted of 8 samples in which 5 were foil samples, 2 were extremely small samples (i.e. free) and only 1 was full size. The $5 value simply was not there. I work too hard for my money to just throw it away on junk. Walmart should be ashamed to send out crap like this.

  14. Just got my first Walmart beauty box today (January 5), and it’s great! Looks very different from Liz’s – only the Maybelline powder coupon was the same. I got three Dove products – body wash, shampoo, conditioner; Pond’s cleansing towelettes (yay!); Pond’s anti-wrinkle cream (double yay!), and Cover Girl Outlast duo – lipstick in Dusty Rose and a lip balm to slick over it. I couldn’t be more pleased. I am super-hooked. The box is sturdy and well-designed, and the tissue paper is a nice touch. Five dollars every three months is NOTHING, and I get a box of cute goodies that I will definitely use up – all of them. What a great experience!

  15. I didn’t get anything like everyone! I got 2 shampoo samples (Loreal and I can’t remember the other name), Burt’s Bee Facial Cleansing Towelettes with White Tea Extract (10 pack), Covergirl lip gloss (full size), Dove Body Wash (sample) and Aveeno’s body lotion (sample), Flowers fragrance card samples. I’m was just happy to finally get mine in the mail. It took forever!

    • I got the same box as you. I was pretty indifferent about it at first, but I have to admit I am liking the Burt’s Bees wipes!

    • I got the same! It’s not a lot, but I’m happy with it since it was only $5. Can’t beat that! I really like the lip gloss. But honestly, I’ll use every single thing in the box, and that doesn’t always happen with subscriptions! So I call it a win all around.

    • I also got this and love those Burt’s Bees wipes!

  16. I didn’t even realize that is was a quarterly subscription until the next box arrived 🙂 I do believe the boxes are according to what you put in because my box is completely different from the one you received. I received Ponds cleaning towelettes (which I use anyway), Ponds anti wrinkle cream (1.75oz), Aveeno lotion (1oz), Olay tone perfecting cream (.24oz), and foil packs of L’Oreal , John Frieda, and Nivea. I think I will keep this sub because these items are great for travel and I won’t wind up wasting money on full size items that do not work for me.

  17. I’m 40 and did not get a box of foil samples. This was the 1st box I received and was pleased. I received a full size Cover Girl 24 hour Lip Color (a lovely color too), Ponds Rejuvinating Cream, Dove Shampoo, Dove Conditioner, Dove Body Wash, and 1 foil packet of a face powder. I was quite pleased with my box. I wonder if they send out a nice “1st” box and then they go downhill after that? After reading the prior reviews, I’m not sure age is responsible for receiving a “bad” box…it may just be the luck of the draw or timing of when they send the boxes out? I ordered mine late—probably 2nd wk of December and received it Dec 29. I hope the next box is as pleasing to me.

    • This is exactly what was in my box, and I’m 42 (and used my real age in my profile.)

  18. I received 3 times less,
almost everything was in foil packets :C

  19. A lot of people mentioned changing your age to get the young box since it was better. That is NOT necessity true. The young box had foil packs, etc. They happened to sell out of the young box fast so they brought this version Liz received.

They are actually suppose to be about equal and they were almost exact until they sold out of the young box so brought this better version. Some people that were sent the first few batches were unlucky and it’s unfair.

I received this box and I’m pretty happy with it. I mean I would not pay more then $5-6 but it’s pretty nice.

  20. I got a yuck box, 3 tiny dove samples for shampoo/conditioner, ponds cream sample, ponds wipes and a lip gloss. All are available in the sample section of my Walmart for $1.47 so I would just as soon go pick out ones that I would use since I’m not saving much money. I’m going to cancel.

  21. I just went on and changed my birth year, so that I no longer get the old lady boxes!!! I think I will give it one more chance…

    • Good plan! I’m going to do the same thing. I got a practical but very snooze-worthy box. Zero makeup. All skin and hair stuff. And the foils. Boo!

  22. Seems like I got the yuck box for this quarter. I got not one, not two, but THREE foil samples. I can’t even remember what else was in it. I was pretty disappointed, especially after the first box being so good. But for $5 I am in to the end. I just hope the next box is better.

  23. I got my shipping notice today. I was surprised, because I received my box a week ago…

      • Me three. And I cancelled after the first box….. Haven’t checked yet if they billed me.

        • Me four. I cancelled too and the box I got last week was all creams and sls shampoos. Wah wah.

  24. I’m pretty sure that Walmart is not making money on this box. The $5 covers shipping and packaging. The products are likely negotiated from their suppliers. I would not expect a curated box- you are getting to be the recipient of new products or best selling products that the manufacturers are trying to build new consumers via sampling. To me, it’s fun at the price, and I accept that some boxes will be better than others, depending on what is available.

  25. My winter box was the same as yours. This box being $5 seems to be a great value if you are looking to try out new products compared to others. I remember in October (I think it was October) that Allure Sample Society cost me $16-$17 and it had a smaller sized L’oreal shampoo and conditioner sample, a perfume sample, and a couple samples you could get for free if you visited a Macy’s beauty counter.

  26. Yeah, I got the old lady box too, and I would have much preferred the box Liz got. I can’t figure out how to change the settings, and make my birth year earlier. I mean, seriously, there is a big difference between someone 43 and someone 63!

  27. My sister received both types of boxes awhile ago. I received my older box last week. I can’t recall what is in hers exactly, but she had lip products in her older (and also the younger) box which I did not receive. It was fun receiving the WalMart boxes. I am going to cancel because I can’t use most of the products. My sister is going to keep her subs.

  28. I haven’t even gotten an email saying that it’s shipped or a charge on my account. :/

    • I got my shipping notification AND the box yesterday. My box included the little pot of Ponds wrinkle cream (no SPF, so I’d consider this a night cream), Covergirl Outlast lip color and topcoat in a really pretty color, Dove oxygen moisture shampoo and conditioner samples (I’m not sure I’ll use these, because I don’t think they are formulated for color treated hair), a sample bottle of Dove deep moisture body wash, a packet of 5 Ponds face wipes and a paper sample of Maybelline powder. For $5, I won’t complain.

  29. They have two different boxes, the young box and mature box. I got this box, the young box and the same items that Liz posted here.

There was a another Wal-Mart young box at first and they sold out of the first winter batch so shipped this one. The previous winter box was entirely junk samples. I’m happy I received this one. I am happy but not super impressed since the Target boxes rocked. They beat Wal-Mart!!!

I keep hearing there is a glitch in there website system. Plus I’ve never received tracking for my boxes or order confirmation. I do receive my boxes though.

I’m pretty happy. The cleansing cloths look nice, I’ll keep them in my bag. Great for travel or long trips. The lip stick is pretty and creamy. I like the lotion. I’m not too thrilled with the hair products but I’ll use them. I definitely got my money’s worth for $5.

  30. The box you received isn’t that bad. At least you doubled your money. I haven’t signed up for this yet but have been wanting to. I’m glad I read the other comments so I’ll use a younger age. lol I certainly don’t want a crappy old lady box. lol Thanks for sharing!!

  31. Got my box last week and my items were a bit different than shown here. I wouldn’t say I was excited by anything in it, but it’s $5 and I like opening up surprise boxes. For me, I’ll continue to subscribe unless it becomes 100% foil packets or, worse to me, a bunch of perfume samples.

  32. I cancelled my subscription after the first box and I still received the winter box in the mail this week. I tried to contact Walmart to try to check that I wont be charged but I have not heard anything back from them.

  33. I’am glad I didn’t order this, cause it doesn’t look too great.

  34. I got the same box as Liz and was generally happy with it. I used the shampoo and conditioner today and it made my hair super soft.

  35. I got the same box as Liz, it’s definitely not as great as the 1st box. I think it also pales in comparison to Target’s boxes that knocked it out of the park this time. Target’s were just so amazing you can’t compare this box to those. I swapped the lipstick already and jerseys bb cream and don’t like foil packets.

  36. I got the first beauty box with no issues but have yet to receive this one. I have contacted cs multiple times by phone and email and been assured it is coming—still don’t have it.

  37. So I got the original Fall box, canceled and thought my subscription/account was done.

About a week and a half ago I got an e-mail that my Winter Beauty box was shipping. CS said it was probably an email glitch but just a few days ago I got the Winter box in the mail. ( same one pictured here, pretty decent box overall)

I have dug through my statements trying to find a charge but haven’t found anything yet. Not sure what is going on but I would stay far away from this subscription. I have not been able to reach customer service since the first call. Oh yeah and when I originally called to see if my account was active they suggested I give my email address and password over the phone to check. Really? Sounded shady to me and I double checked that I called the correct number after the fact.

Just wanted to throw my experience out there for anyone considering a subscription. I would go with one of Target’s beauty boxes when they release them personally.

    • SAME!! They said it was shipping and I was like WTF I cancelled. I’ll have to change my card if they ever charge me, which is a bummer, but same as you, there has been no charge. If they’re that stupid, I”m fine with a free box. But really pissed my info is still on there and such. ugh. I think i went in and changed my address to an old one that doesn’t work, but they still have my card number which bothers me. And, I too, haven’t been able to reach customer service at their provided line. I don’t think anyone ever answers. It’s bullshit. Liz, have you ever been able to reach them? I just don’t know what’s going on. My account blatantly says I cancelled.

      • So I hope it worked but I changed my card to a prepaid card I have that has no balance (I got the idea from a reddit post on subscription boxes and how people will buy the first one then cancel or change it to say a Visa prepaid card so it won’t go through and hence they aren’t stuck with a subscription and don’t have their main credit card on their account). I Just checked my account and it looks like it worked.

I am really annoyed my info is on there too! What is really weird is I changed my password for the beauty box on their site and I am 100% sure of my password yet to login I have to reset my password everytime. Previously after cancelling, I tried to login and it said my account didn’t exist. Now apparently it does. The lady on the phone said the system did go through an overhaul. But still, if I knew it would be such a mess I would have never subscribed.

I have called and left two messages and sent two e-mails. I was going to contact the BBB but Brandshare US is not listed (they are the ones handling the beauty box not Walmart). I found their main website and I was going to harass them there because their customer service is terrible. The lady I originally talked to was nice but it was off-putting to be told that I should give my password and username over the phone (shouldn’t you, as a customer service agent, have that administrative authority to see/lookup my account)??

    • This happened to me too but I was charged. After the fall box I cancelled and according to CS then all was good. Then I received an email and a charged to my account I contacted CS but nothing. If anything my CC expires on January so no more tricky charges for me

  38. I ordered 3 boxes for myself and family. The first 2 boxes were the “Old Lady” boxes — full of foil packets. Awful!!! All women want to feel special. I received nothing representing anything close to the $5 I paid per box. The third box I received on Friday was for my younger cousin. Her box was the same as Liz’s. 100% better than the earlier boxes. I was shocked all over again.

I sent a angry email to Walmart several weeks ago (when I received the first 2 boxes) and posted my complaints on various blogs and social networks. In addition to filing my complaint, I strongly suggested in my email that WALMART should follow TARGET’s lead and construct future boxes with all the same full size/deluxe size samples (no foil packets). A few days later I did hear back from WALMART marketing department. They did acknowledge that they are taking everything under consideration and that they are getting a lot of feedback on the winter 2014 boxes. I recommend everyone dissatisfied with their Winter boxes fire up an email to Walmart.

As of now, I am still debating cancelling my subscriptions. I want to wait and see if Walmart makes any changes to the program.

    • Thank you, I certainly shall do that then, I was pleased with the first box but the Winter box was not worth it.

  39. I liked my box! I got Ponds anti wrinkle cream, ponds towelettes, dove shampoo, conditioner & body wash, Covergirl Outlast & the maybelline coupon.

    • You hit the jackpot! That was a great box.

    • I got my box today and it was the same as your box Shanica. I liked it. I also had a Dove body wash.

  40. Got the mini ponds.. Gave to a coworker. Got the Cover Girl lipstick. Gave to niece. Rest was shampoo and conditioner sample.. Not as good as first box.

  41. My box sucked – all foil packets and a Ponds cream sample. I hated it and am really mad. I would not have spent $5 for a bunch of free samples in a form I hate (foil packets). I got the old fogey box and I am rethinking changing my age. I am also really insulted. They should just have one box.

  42. I got 2 different brands of foil packets of both shampoo and conditioner, samples of perfume (the kind you would get in a magazine), Covergirl lip gloss, a 10 pack (smaller than retail pack) of Burt’s Bees cleansing wipes, and a 1 fl. oz sample bottle of Aveeno lotion.

I only liked the lip gloss and the wipes, so I don’t think the box was worth it. I would rather go out and buy both of the items for a few dollars more than buy this box.

    • I have they same box as yours. I was so disappointed that I cancelled my subscription.

    • I got this box. My thought was: What a letdown after the first box. Didn’t know there was more than one version.

    • You should have gotten a mini Dove body wash too! I got the same version as you did – three foil things, facial towelettes, Aveeno lotion, and the CG lipgloss (mine was in “Juicy Fruit.” It’s glittery and pink), and the Dove body wash (1.8oz/53mL). I would send an email about the missing item.

  43. Do I have to re-subscibe if I got the fall box or does it automatically get sent to me and charge me $5?

    • Amanda,

I had to go and update my credit card so I just got mine. It was expired and I didn’t get a email stating that it wasn’t updated so I would go look in your profile. It will say if your account is active or not.

      • Thanks for letting me know! I went there and it said my next box was processed so I guess it worked, I just haven’t gotten it yet.

  44. I got Burt’s Bees facial wipes, CoverGirl lip gloss (full size), Aveeno lotion, Dove body wash, trial sized. Large foil packets of John Frieda shampoo and conditioner and Loreal shampoo and conditioner. I was hoping for deodorant, but maybe next time.

  45. I was pretty happy with mine. I got completely different stuff than you. I got it so long ago, that I can’t quite remember. But I got the Ponds anti-aging cream, a different travel-size conditioner and shampoo, a lipstick, some Burt’s Bees makeup remover things (I think) and I can’t remember what else. I was pretty happy with my haul. I mean, it’s only $5. And I don’t think I got anything in foil packets. I’m 51, so it might have just been a good box for people my age.

  46. I got what Liz got and cancelled. I liked my first box, but the only thing I’ll use from this one is the shampoo.

  47. Liz, I think this is actually Walmart’s second beauty box! I got their box in the fall too, and I got the same box as you this winter. My fall box came with a similar mix of items, except there were more items. There was a mini Dove hair oil, Secret deodorant, Pink Friday perfume sample, and Covergirl nail polish along with similar items like the shampoo & conditioner, full size lip product, coupons, and small samples. 🙂

  48. I got mostly foil packets of hair products and a mini jar sample of Ponds anti aging cream for 40+ yr old. I would’ve preferred a better variety and better sizes.

    • I got the same as Jennifer. Very disappointing and was not even worth the $5.

      • I got the box o’ foils as well (some of which I had gotten as free samples with Ulta orders in the past). I’m 37 and didn’t lie about my age on the form, though.

I canceled this one. I’m trying to streamline and reduce the number of overall beauty products I have. Since nothing really wowed me with this box, I just let it go. (I’ve got nothing against drugstore products and really enjoyed the recent Target boxes. But the $5 Target box was a lot better.)

        • If you want a box that is worth it, $15 a month get Allure , or Boxycharm for $21 they are a little extra but you at least get your monies worth. Just a suggestion, and Target is a win win for $5

      • Got the same as you 2 ladies. Lots of foil packets. Guess us older girls get the less exciting stuff.

        • Not just “old ladies” got awful boxes! I’m only 28 and I got foil packets and a lip gloss…that’s it.

    • I got the same sucky box! I guess Walmart thinks when you reach 40, you shouldn’t be wearing any make up. Starting next year Target is supposed to come out with a new beauty program.

    • I also got this box (I’m 37). I love the cream but HATE hate hate foil packets. Ugh. I would rather just get a couple travel size bottles instead of a bunch of foil packets.

  49. This is the box I got, and I love it!! Sooooo glad I got this one and not the box with the glittery Covergirl lipgloss.
