GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! Box

GlossyBox releases a limited edition Holiday box every year, and I think it makes a great gift. (The red packaging on the box is even a velvet-type material!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYI – I also bought a Holiday Box, and it shipped as of yesterday. I’m going to give it away to one lucky reader. You can enter the giveaway at the end of the post!

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! First Look

More wonderful packaging shots! Unlike the typical GlossyBox, the lid flips open instead of lifting off.

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! NCLA

NCLA Nail Polish in Satin Sheets, Velvet Ropes – FULL SIZE! Value $16

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates in Smote – FULL SIZE! Value $14

This NCLA nail polish is a very festive red, with a micro shimmer. I have a lot of red nail polishes right now thanks to subscription boxes, but I think this is a very appropriate addition to the box.

Based on my experience with other OCC makeup I was expecting this eye shadow to be highly-pigmented, but it surprisingly applied somewhat sheer. That’s fine with me, and I really like this interesting pink/grey/brown shimmery color!

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! Lip

The Lip Bar Lipstick in Crimson Wonderland – FULL SIZE! Value $25

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Wind – FULL SIZE! Value $20

FYI – The Crimson Wonderland lipstick shown on the Lip Bar site has a gold lipstick container, and all the other lipsticks have the black lipstick tube shown here, and retail for $20, so I’d say this lipstick is a $20 value. I can’t rock a bold red, so I think I’ll be passing this along to a friend.

This Jouer Lip Gloss has a somewhat creamy finish – not as glossy as I expected. It’s very natural looking, and just like the name says – moisturizing!

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! Eye

Cargo Texas Liner Liquid Eye Liner – FULL SIZE! Value $20

Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara – FULL SIZE! Value $20

I ended up loving both of these products. The stubby stick of this liquid eyeliner marker made it pretty easy to apply, and this mascara is one of my new favorites – it adds a lot of volume without sacrificing lash separation! I recommend both, but the mascara is definitely my favorite discovery in the box.

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! Teadora

Teadora Nourishing Lip Butter – FULL SIZE! Value $15

This lip butter has a wonderful natural orange scent. I know it is made for lips, but I like it best for my cuticles!

GlossyBox Holiday 2014 Box Review & Giveaway! Reveal

Calvin Klein REVEAL – .5 oz Value $30

Considering the .33 oz rollerball version of this scent is $24, I think a $30 value is a fair estimate on this perfume. I’m not in love with this scent – but I don’t mind it either.

Verdict: With the exception of the perfume and red lipstick, I love every item in this box! For a $40 box, I think it’s amazing that it has a value of over $150, with every item being full-sized. What do you think of the Holiday 2014 GlossyBox?

  1. One of the best mix of products boxes ive gotten!! Totally worth 20$!

  2. Was anyone else’s mascara completely dried out (mine was)? Also, I opened the lip butter today (after originally opening it on Dec 22) and there was mold growing on it, so be careful. I’m glad I looked before I used it.

  3. I just received the Holiday Box and it is gorgeous. The box and products look amazing. I can’t wait to try everything. Liz-Thanks for sharing the information regarding this box and the discount. I can’t believe I bought this for $20.

  4. I can’t wait to get this box but it’s been sitting Hebron, KY since December 6th. Anyone else?

    • To my surprise, my box ended up arriving today! Yeah, I love it!

  5. I just received my box today. I am curious about the lip butter. It was actually the product I was most excited about. It seems and looks completely dried out. The lid did not seem to be on very well. Is this just the texture it is supposed to be?

  6. I currently only get birchbox but I am seriously considering this one!
    Looks awesome!

  7. Mine arrived yesterday and is SOOO worth the $20 I paid for it!!! Thanks for that deal headsup Liz 🙂

    • Yay – so glad you like it! I was super impressed 🙂

  8. What a beautiful box! I just joined Glossybox in November. I’m still waiting for my box. I didn’t order a holiday box because I didn’t know if it would make it here in time. Wish I had. I didn’t even know about beauty subscription boxes until I read your posts! Thank you for all of the information! I even subscribed to the Walmart Beauty Box! Hoping it’s a good one!

  9. Just received mine, it’s so nice, what a great gift!

  10. Mine arrived yesterday and it was gorgeous!!! I’m so mad I didn’t order one when they were 50% off as a gift for one of my friends. The box alone is worth it, it’s so pretty! And I’ll be using everything inside. I already used the lipstick last night for a holiday party. If I had checked my mail earlier, I would have used the eyeliner, mascara and the nail polish as well. lol.

  11. I just got my tracking number today! I bought this as a gift for my best friend. The packaging is beautiful and I’m so excited for her to receive it. She’s gonna love it!!

  12. Wow!! The packaging is truly stunning! This would make a gorgeous gift (If you could bear to part with it). Seems like a nice variety and some cool, boutique-y brands. It’s very kind of you do to do a giveaway on this, Liz. Thanks!

  13. Yeah, just got my shipping notice, it’s on the way!

    • Me, too.

Knowing Glossybox/Newgistics, it’s still iffy as to whether I’ll get mine before Christmas. Good thing I wear red lipstick and nail polish all year round!

  14. Yah! Thank you soooo much for your amazing reviews! LOVE reading all of them, even the ones I don’t get. Crossing fingers to win this one! I LOVE all of it!! Thank you for what you do! 🙂

  15. I’m happy with the box value since I only paid $20, but I do wish they could have been more creative with product variety and not included 3 lip products. I generally dislike lip gloss and like most beauty sub addicts, I’m drowning in them. Red is probably the hardest shade to find that matches an individual woman’s coloring, so including a lipstick in this shade seems like poor judgment to me. Adding 2 more lip items didn’t improve the box overall. I’m hoping the Cargo liner is better than all of theirs I’ve tested in the past since they tend to be quite dry in general. The mascara is new to me so I’m looking forward to trying it. Scents are always tough but I’m pretty easy to please in that area and usually do like CK scents. And eyeshadow and nail polish are always wins for me.

  16. I would love to win this box. I hesitated when it was discounted to $20 and it was back to 20 percent off when I decided to purchase it. I held off since I had purchased so much on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I have gone a little crazy with subscription boxes lately.

  17. I got nearly every box this month including ipsy, birchbox, Blush, Boxycharm, target, Wal-Mart, sample society and maybe that’s it but no Glossy Box. I have been extremely tempted but am weary of cs issues, slow shipping so I hope I win because I may fall in love. This looks just gorgeous, seems very much worth the wait!! 🙂 Oh and I missed out on PSMH. I got to the $20 box a day, literally hours too late and was so sad, didn’t want to get it without the deal. Those two boxes are on my wish list. I’m also expecting Fab Fit Fun this month. What a great sub month! My first with subscriptions and it’s been a blast!! 🙂

  18. Aww, now I’m bummed that I didn’t got it when there was the coupon for 20% off. I will keep my fingers crossed to win that one! 😀

  19. Thanks! I wasn’t able to get in on the deal for this box so I’d love to win.

  20. Love your site- because of you, I subscribe to Birchbox and Boxycharm, and have taken advantage of Target boxes, Allure boxes, and more… and have saved so much money and had so much fun. Thanks for these cool giveaways.

  21. I’m a sucker for OCC products, I’d love to see what this color looks like on.

  22. i dont get it, i ordered a 12 month subscription and this box is for free, 2 weeks ago and i’ve received nothing 🙁
i hope i didnt get ripped off 🙁

    • Not sure why you’d think that. They haven’t even shipped the boxes to subscribers yet. This was a blogger promo box sent to MSA in advance. To my knowledge no subscribers have received a box yet. They almost always ship at the end of the month (this wasn’t guaranteed for Christmas delivery either, as best I recall). You should be fine.

      • why i would think that???
Like i said i have only just signed up and the money was taken out of my account already, so excuse me for expecting services for payments received.

        • Get used to that with Glossybox– it’s standard for them to take payment at the beginning of the month and ship three, sometimes three+ weeks later. They get A LOT of complaints about their shipping schedule.

          • I guess I just think of it as a subscription and expect to be debited at the beginning of the month and have it arrive by the end. All but my Oct. box have arrived by the third week of the month. It seems I have been fortunate in this aspect. As for their quality issues, I will now only buy LE boxes once I have seen full spoilers. These spoilers along with the free Dec. box did me in. I’m also going to start taking advantage of the coupons and deals instead of subscribing ongoing for $40/month. This has made me give PS a 2nd chance at saving our relationship before I’m done for good. 😉

          • oops getting boxes confused…but the same goes with my glossybox. It actually has always arrived on the same day as my sons loot crate with out fail. But I’m taking advantage of deals on this box too thanks to Liz.

  23. I’m excited! I might actually wrap it and put it under the tree so I can have more presents under there lol

  24. would love to try this box sometime. Maybe after the holidays when I have a few pennies

  25. What an awesome and beautiful box!

  26. This looks like a pretty nice box, I just hate that Glossybox ships sooo late. Plus I don’t like how they automatically renew subscriptions.

  27. I can’t wait for mine to get here, I snagged one with the $20 deal!

    • Me, too, so I won’t enter this giveaway. Still, thanks for running so many great giveaways, Liz!

      • I got in on it, too, on thanksgiving day. I’m still shocked they honored their discount error. But then they turned around and auto renewed my 3 month sub after I specifically cancelled 12 days prior. Even Glossy’s hopeless/hapless CS couldn’t explain that buffoonery. In the past they’ve tried arguing “you have to cancel a month prior.” Then it was “you have to cancel in the renewal month itself,” which is literally impossible when they auto renew on the first of the month after your sub expires. They had also claimed they have “always” autorenewed subs, which was yet another misstatement because they most certainly did not until this past summer (I’ve been subbed to Glossy for over a year now). And my personal, all-time favorite CS claim? That one-time gift subs also autorenew, even though they explicitly call them one time purchases. So that put an end to me gifting glossy subs. For once I feel like I came out on top with Glossy. Kind of makes me smile after I spent 6 days getting the $60 refunded last week.

        • I crawfished out of this sub a while back as well. While I liked-loved the boxes, the shipping drove me bananas and the CS horror stories just put me off! I hate nothing more from a sub than crappy shipping issues. (I left PSMH for the same reason.)
However, if they reandomly do another GLORIOUS Bergdorf Goodman box I’ll hop back on the bandwagon in a split second! Let’s face it, nothing they do will stand up to that BG box.

        • Most credit card companies allow you to use virtual card numbers nowadays. For recurring subs, just generate a number for the number of months you signed up for and you don’t have to worry about them over charging you. =P

  28. Liz your awesome!! Glossybox is always so well presented!!

    • Glossybox seriously has the best packaging – and the holiday box packaging is even more gorgeous! 🙂

  29. Mine should be shipping shortly!!!! I’m so excited to get this box plus the December glossybox is supposed to be over $90 in full sized products so I’m looking fwd to that as well!!! Thanks for sharing Liz!
