Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – November 2014 Vanilla

Epic Turkey Almond Cranbery Bar – 1.5 oz, value: $4

Boo Boo Bakery Vanilla Bean Marshmallows – 16 count, value: $9.99

This turkey bar was very interesting, but just not for me. I thought it was kind of crumbly in texture.

Marshmallows are one of my absolute favorite treats (I even had gourmet marshmallows as favors at my wedding) so I was super excited for these vanilla bean marshmallows! Unfortunately, mine were rather dry and a little hard. I’m not sure if this could be due to sitting in my mailbox in freezing weather and then thawing again, or if it’s the marshmallows themselves.

Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – November 2014 Feast

Beth’s Farm Kitchen Cranberry Sauce – 8 oz, value: $8?

Josephine’s Feast Pumpkin Chutney with Ginger & Cardamom – 8 oz, value: $12

I love that the only ingredients in this cranberry sauce are cranberries, sugar, oranges, water, and cardamom – the cranberry sauce that comes in cans and retains the shape of the can always freaked me out a little! I’m excited to try this.

AFarm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – November 2014 Apple Butter

Red Jacket Apple Butter – 8 oz, value: $6

Tierra Farm Organic Raw Walnut Halves – 6 oz, value: $5.94

I couldn’t find these walnut pieces on Farm to People’s website, so I used the producer’s site to estimate the cost. Also, I have to say that I was kind of underwhelmed to get just plain walnuts in my box. I’ll use them, but I feel like I can find walnuts anywhere.

This apple butter is great, though. My grandmother used to make apple butter all the time, and this doesn’t actually taste too far from it.

Verdict: I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed with this month’s Farm to People box. I’ll use about half of the items, but I wish there were more snacks instead of 3 different sauces/spreads, and I didn’t care for the marshmallows or turkey bar. Also, the value only adds up to just about $46, which just doesn’t quite break even with the cost of the box. Like I said, though, I’ll use some of the items, so it’s ultimately not a complete loss for me.

What do you think about the November Farm to People Box?

I think both Haley and Liz do a good job! This particular box is too spendy for me, but it’s still interesting to see the contents and to see what kinds of subscriptions are becoming available.

I love Haley’s reviews! She is always on the mark with pricing and has genuinely interesting comments to share.

She seems very honest and I appreciate that. I mean, come on — who gets that stoked over walnuts? I’d have said the same thing.

I like Haley’s reviews too. I just would like to see some crafting boxes previewed.

I find Haley’s reviews to be just as insightful as Liz’s. So, no sour grapes here. I agree with Subie, I think that Haley doesn’t get awesome boxes–but her reviews are very honest and I appreciate her reporting style. Haley, has saved me from this sub and my wallet is grateful. The only thing, and this is actually more for Liz’s reviews–I wish every beauty item or food item reviewed had a comment or remark about it. I mean, I can see why you can’t give us feedback on every item in a box, as you have lives and time is precious. But when there is no commentary from MSA, that makes me think the product is a lemon. Just my 2 bits.

Thanks for the feedback Chelsea! I’ll try to comment on everything moving forward as much as I can – even if it is simply that I haven’t gotten a chance to try the product yet. I think I’ll also need to defer more food boxes to other reviewerss since I think a lot of my food restrictions keep me from being able to try everything! 🙂

I find Haley’s reviews to be right on point. I just don’t think the boxes she reviews are always of the greatest quality but it doesn’t make sense for 2 people to review the same boxes. Keep up the great work, Haley!

I’ve noticed that LIz subscribes to a great deal of the boxes that she reviews and many of the ones that Haley reviews are sent for review purposes. Also, it seems like Haley reviews a lot of the smaller, independent box companies.

Anyway, I love reading all of the reviews both ladies, as well as the comments from the readers. I think I visit this blog 20 times a day for new updates lol. I’m addicted to box reviews.

Wow, looking at the info cards it looks like in the $30 box you only get the bar, marshmallows and one sauce….I get that not all boxes meet the cost (Mantry, etc) but at least for those ones you can get behind the products they include! I will not be subscribing to this one.

I just don’t find Haley’s reviews as helpful as Liz’s.

And I just don’t see how this kind of random comment is helpful/meaningful feedback.

I thought it was a very thorough review!

Do you know which items ended up in the smaller Casual Foodie box?

Haley

Erin, Thanks so much! Also, the items in the smaller box are just the marshmallows, cranberry sauce, and cranberry turkey bar. =]

Hi! I want to let you know that if you have any specific feedback or suggestions of anything you’d like to see included in my reviews, we’d be happy to hear it. MSA is definitely dedicated to being as informative and helpful a source as possible, so we love hearing from our readers!

At first glance, this looked like a nicely curated box. It’s very “Whole Foods”, so the $50 price point I’d say is pretty accurate.

But after your product interaction description… eeeek! What a waste of $50! Glad I didn’t sign up for this box.
