The Sassy Box Subscription Box Review - October 2014 Info

This is their debut box! Every box comes with a card describing that month’s theme (and details of each item on the back). October’s theme is “Bloom where you are planted.” They want this to serve as an inspiration to thrive in all of life’s situations and circumstances.

The Sassy Box Subscription Box Review - October 2014 Great Day

Lunchbox Notes (Set of 15)

Initial Thank You Notes (Set of 6)

I remember my mom always writing me a note on my napkin for lunch at school, so I feel pretty sentimental towards these lunchbox notes! They’re also great for packed lunches for your spouse, to add to gifts, to leave in random places, etc.

Thank you notes are always something I could use more of, but I just don’t know if I would actually send someone a note with my own initial on it.

The Sassy Box Subscription Box Review - October 2014 Candy Corn

Candy Corn (Bonus Sweet Treat)

Burst of Blooms Wildflower Seed Mix

A pack of flower seeds is a really great inclusion in this box for the theme – I just wish it weren’t heading into winter so I could actually use them!

The Sassy Box Subscription Box Review - October 2014 Bloom

Personalized Note Pad

“Bloom Where You Are Planted” 5x7 Print

Be YOU Tiful Charm/Keychain

I always post things like prints and photos on my walls at home, so I’m happy getting another print. I also think this keypad is cute, and I think I’ll gift the keychain to my little sister-in-law!

UPDATED Verdict: The Sassy Box is a really cute subscription – the colors and packaging are all vibrant and well-done. The theme is really sweet this month; I like the message behind it, but maybe the flowers and “blooming” aspect would have been more appropriate for a spring box? I feel like that’s just me being nit-picky, though. The value, however, does seem a little off to me – including shipping, a monthly box costs $37.50 – I know experience and personalization and everything can have its own value, but for that cost I would hope for more value from the items in the box. I know that this is their first box, so we’ll see how their future boxes turn out.

What do you think about the Sassy Box?

Based on what I just read, I am not at all interested. Thank you ladies for you honesty.

You have got to be kidding me!! This looks like someone hit the dollar section of Michael’s or Joanne’s. Truly you can’t recommend this?

I thought the same thing, especially with that other blessed box for only $10 that is pretty legit. Refer to my thread of comments for a response from the author.

Did you only give this box a good review because it is a new subscription and was sent to you? The contents of this are down right terrible for the price. I don’t understand at all how you gave it such a pleasant review. New or not, you’re still taking people’s money and should provide with good quality & decent value (even if it is a box based on what the value feels to you personally). This box doesn’t even deserve 1 star out of 5.

Jenny, here at MSA we definitely don’t give any kind of preferential treatment to new boxes (or ANY boxes). Our reviews are our own opinion. I do want to make a statement that I do think that the value is quite off – for $37+/month, I would hope to get more value from the items in the box, and I should have mentioned that specifically in the review (in fact, we’re updating it soon to include a specific value assessment). However, my opinion is my own and I did like just about everything in the box, so I’m willing to hope to see more from their future boxes, personally.

Awesome! I’m glad y’all will be updating because I was really sketched out. This was the first review I’ve seen that was questionable for me, especially since every commenter agreed that the contents were weak for the price. Just making sure the site stays legit because I always refer my family and friends (and random people on social media) here.

PS. could you list the prices for when you commit to a longer subscription? Thanks!

Caitlin G.

I imagine she gave it a good review because she liked it. Some boxes are about curation, not necessarily about monetary value. Value is a personal thing to people, and what you perceive as not valuable may really touch someone else’s heart (and therefore absolutely be worth the price tag.) I think your response is kind of disrespectful to the good work the authors here do.

My comment wasn’t disrespectful at all seeing as how I’ve looked at almost every review put on this website for the past year. This was the first time I’ve ever been really confused by a review. I have no shame calling it how I see it since I am a loyal reader. No need for you to call me disrespectful because I ask questions and don’t just thumbs up every review.

As you can see in Hayley’s response, she said, “I do want to make a statement that I do think that the value is quite off – for $37+/month, I would hope to get more value from the items in the box, and I should have mentioned that specifically in the review (in fact, we’re updating it soon to include a specific value assessment). ”

A statement like that is exactly what I was looking for. And I’m glad the makers of the box will see it and know where to improve. Even if she would have said, “I feel like the value is just fine, and I enjoyed the box regardless of the price,” that would have been just as ok of an answer. I wanted clarification because they are pretty nitpicky about the value vs. the cost.

I agree this is just a bunch of random Dollar Store looking stuff. I am really considering the Love & Blessed subscription as it’s only $10 for a different “theme” box and really like this months. This box is not Sassy to me, and very overpriced and as Barbie mentioned in the same price point as PopSugar but no content comparison.

I think this box looks terribly cheap. Those look like things I could have printed with my “free with purchase” printer. The value for this entire box doesn’t look like it could be more than $10. I feel the Sub box service is getting inundated with companies trying to “me too” without putting much thought into it.

A new box should be extra great, how else will you attract customers. I can’t believe how low the value is. And candy corn? Really????

Haley

Chilly, you make a good point – it’s obviously in new boxes’ best interest to put out an amazing debut box but, unfortunately, they often don’t and end up using the feedback to grow or change their subscription (this makes me think about Lip Monthly – I wasn’t very happy with their first box but they continued to make changes and are gradually improving). I did like the items included, though, so I’m willing to see how they do with their future boxes. =]

Everything is well themed. When I compare this against what I received in the Love & Blessed box, well…I’m not sure if the price gap should be so great. I do hope they are successful. It shows they put time and effort in it.

Haley- You can put the seed packet in a glass jar and place it in a cool, dark place. They will keep until the spring. You can even use a mason jar if the seed packets will fit.

Haley

Anna, thank you so much for the tip to help the seeds keep! Also, it’s interesting you compare this to Loved + Blessed – I think both fit quite niche markets. Not everyone is in the demographic that would be interested in a faith-based box like L+B, and not everyone is a huge fan of personalize stationery. However, I do hope that SassyBox pays attention to feedback and makes effective changes for their future boxes.

Considering PopSugar is 39.95 and this is 37.95..

I don’t even need to say more than that. :/

Wow, that is a shockingly high price for the contents. I am not excited about the designs, either.

I think this looks like a good box for young girls, but the price seems to be a bit steep for what you get.

I hate to say this and I probably shouldn’t since this is a new box and it needs a chance, but I think it is way too expensive for what you get and it seems they penalize the monthly subscriber by charging them $5.00 more besides. I would have a hard time paying $37.95 total for a box that it seems to me I can get at the dollar store for under $10.00. For one initial stuff doesn’t appeal to me and it cheapens the product. I feel like I ordered one of those specials you get in the coupon section of the newspaper. I know for sure I wouldn’t look at this subscription twice, I would bypass quickly and go into a much better box that is out there.
