I hope Helen chimes in because I think she has been doing craft boxes longer than I have. A big part of it for me is that I can sit down and do a project to completion without having to worry if I need something else.
I love Homegrown Collective. I call it Mother Earth News in a box. This is one of my favorite subs. I enjoy learning. I made sunscreen, aloe lotion bars, candles, room diffusers, deodorant, tooth paste, soap and more. The only thing I don’t like about the sub is that it ships late. Sometimes the last week of the month or the first week of the new month. This is a sub where I have to be laid back about the shipping. It will eventually show up sometimes with tracking; sometimes not. Facebook is a great way to see what is going on. I can usually do the box in an hour and a half even with the kids helping or asking questions. Be sure to read all the directions before beginning!
It’s hard to pick a favorite because I like them for different reasons. I like KreationKrate because it’s always something different. Also you are making 2 crafts. One is for you and one is a kindness craft that you give away. I painted, made a home decor thingy, made a scrapbook, sent cards to a children’s hospital, made a wreath among other things. You can see past projects on her website. Also she includes everything from paint brushes to glue guns. She even emailed us once to let us know someone received dried out paint and to feel free to email her if we need replacements. 2-day shipping. Never had an issue. Always have extras. I find KreationKrate challenges me a little at times. For example I need to come up with the design to make my mosaic tile frame from the October box. KreationKrate can take me anywhere from an hour to a couple hours. It requires more concentration on my part.
Darby Smart. I started off with a voucher deal that allowed me to spend X amount on the website. I bought a few kits. This is when I first started to get back into crafting. Everything I needed was in the kit. I etched glass, made dinosaur critter rings for the boys, made coasters, soaps, and other projects. Then they ran a special for the mystery boxes which cost me $4.00 for 3 months because I had money left on the voucher. I made soap, dyed scarves, and my son made the Halloween house. You can see past projects. I bought another regular box which is wood burning ornaments. I think Darby Smart is the easiest although they do offer complex projects which I have not tried. Times differ depending on the project.
Twined is the newest out of the 3. It’s every other month and includes one art and one craft. I have done every box so far. I peeked online and December box will be a snowflake painting and painted ornaments. I made a decorative BOO sign, textured painting and other things. This box challenges me the most. Their payment system is different. Twined invoices you through PayPal. You have to actively pay it. Twined usually takes me longer because the paint needs to dry etc. Plus I need to think such as what design for my textured painting. Remember I haven’t tapped into my creative side in years.
Now a seasoned pro or a person with more crafting materials may have a different outlook. Also I am not interested in making jewelry. I hope this helps!
