Scentbird Subscription Box Review – November 2014 Purse

This is the purse spray case you get with your first month, with the sample vial inside. You can see it closed (top) and open (bottom). I have to say that this is what makes this subscription for me. The case is has a nice weight, is sleek, and feels high quality. It’s easy to open and close, and to switch perfumes you just open the case, pull the vial out, and place the next one inside!

The fragrance I selected this month is Flowerbomb Eau de Toilette by Viktor & Rolf. I’ve heard so much crazy hype about this fragrance, so I’ve been really anxious for this month’s delivery! It has notes of Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, and Patchouli.

I absolutely love the way this fragrance smells when sprayed on a piece of paper! It’s definitely a sweet, oriental floral. But because each person’s body chemistry reacts differently to the oils in perfumes, fragrances smell different when sprayed on your skin. I don’t actually care for the initial scent of this perfume on me; I like it better as it wears down a little and more flowers can come through, but I can still smell a lot of patchouli and musk – both things I’m really picky about in my perfumes. (I actually wonder if it’s possible that something about my body chemistry either doesn’t mix well with patchouli or enhances it because I feel like patchouli notes always seem extra strong once fragrances are on my skin.)

A 9.76 ml rollerball of this fragrance sells for $29, so this 8 ml spray is worth about $23.75. The sample size Scentbird sends is enough for a month of use, with two applications a day.

Verdict: I absolutely love Scentbird. I love that I can trust that the fragrances they send to be authentic and that I can get almost a full rollerball-size every month for much less than what I’d pay in a store for that amount. I also feel like this is an excellent option for people who want to explore the world of fragrance even if they’re not very familiar or practiced with identifying notes or knowing how to describe the kinds of perfumes they like. Their website is easy to use and search, has detailed descriptions about each perfume, and provides you with lots of recommendations based on your tastes.

It’s awesome that Scentbird offers designer brands and scents I recognize and want to try, even though it doesn’t seem like they have some super-new releases (however, if you email them requesting a fragrance they probably already have plans to add it – and they bump it up in priority according to requests for it!). All in all, I’m really happy with this sub!

What do you think of Scentbird? Are you going to give it a try with the 50% code?

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten excited for a subscription box. I’ve ended up with so many samples that I cancelled every subscription box I’ve had. Until I saw this review. I am so excited for this, I had to sign up right away. Perfume is something that I use everyday and I love that you get a generous size and you get to choose your scents. Thank you so much for your review!!

I love scentbird! I highly recommend them! The price is right for what you get. These are not tiny samples. These is close to what you would get wth a perfume size spray and they last me longer than a month.
It’s perfect for someone like me who just started loving perfume and I have no clue what I like yet. And I certainly don’t want to commit to a $100 bottle of perfume without trying it for a little while.
There are some perfumes I would love to try that they don’t have but maybe they will get.
Also the customer service is EXCELLENT! The lady who started it is super nice and helpful and if you have any questions or help choosing a perfume she is very good at give suggestions.

Yeah, I had to quit for financial reasons but I was very happy with the vial sizes, the selection, and the customer service while I was still subscribed.

Is it possible for you to a size comparison with a regular tester sample we get in subscription boxes? I am hesitant to purchase this subscription because I can’t get a good idea of the size.

Thank you :]

I agree with the others – this is a big vial at 8ml. As Haley said it’s almost the size of a rollerball. I wouldn’t compare it to the sample vials at all.

Scentbird claims it’s enough fragrance to last you a full month and I’m certain that would be true of me. According to Surrender to Chance you can get about 115 sprays from an 8ml decant. (I know this isn’t exact science, but let’s go with it.) That’s 3-4 sprays a day for a month.

Thank you everyone for helping! Now, I have to find someway to afford this subscription without canceling my other scripts 😉

Andrea, I’ll be sure to do that in future reviews – I also have a photo of it in my hand I can post as a comment when I get home tonight. If it helps, the sample vials you generally get in regular sub boxes are 1 to 1.5 ml. Scentbird’s are 8ml. Regularly sized rollerball perfumes are usually 10 ml. Ashley is right – it’s at least as big as a lipstick, definitely larger including the twisting case. Hope this helps!!

The vial is at least 3 inches long and really wide. It’s larger than a lipstick, if that helps. I love Scentbird, too!!

This is very interesting subscription to me. I’m considering asking for it for Christmas but I’m going to wait to see if there are any Black Friday deals I’d like more.

Just got an email from them – Stocking Stuffer Alert! Perfume For Just $12.99 – Liz I just forwarded you the email =)

I was really excited by the stocking stuffer but then discovered they only let you choose from three fragrances. (Otherwise I would’ve gifted it to myself!)

I’ve loved my Scentbird subscription so far; I love the idea of being able to choose exactly what you’ll receive. I may like change too much but I’d love to have different tiers of membership so I could select two different fragrances (each half the size) for the month. The scent I received for November is a gorgeous one (Hermes Eau des Merveilles) but I quickly realized it does not suit me at all. It would be great to be able to choose two so I can pick a “safe” scent and then a “risk”.

Well I just subscribed. It looks like a fun sub to try.
