Treatsie Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Card

Every month, Treatsie includes a card detailing the products included in that month’s box. They also just changed the look of their cards, and now they include the total box value. I think they’ve had a different layout for their cards each of the last three months as they’ve been tweaking it, but I think they’ve finally found an excellent design! I love that they include the values of the items in the box as well as the full-sized prices.

Treatsie Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Candies

Treatsie Variety Mix from Raley’s Confectionary – 1 pouch (3 oz), value: $6

Shotwell Candy Co.’s “Old Fashioned” Cocktail Caramel – 3 pieces, value: $3.50

Shotwell Candy Co.’s Hand-Crushed Espresso Caramel – 3 pieces, value: $3.50

These candies from Raley’s Confectionary were featured in Treatsie’s February box, but this month the flavor mix is actually made for Treatsie. This mix has candies in flavors of lime, lemon, grapefruit, orange, pomegranate, banana, root beer, blueberry, cherry, raspberry, watermelon, tutti-Frutti, strawberry, mango, and kiwi! I’m not generally one for hard candy, but I like these. They’re also some of the most beautiful hard candies I’ve seen and the (full-size!) re-sealable pouch is really convenient.

I’m not personally fond of solid caramel candies, and the last two or three Treatsie boxes have heavily featured caramels! However, I do have caramel-lovers in my life so I definitely know I can pass these along to someone who will appreciate them more than I do.

Treatsie Subscription Box Review - July 2014 Bars

Seattle Chocolates: Dark Chocolate Truffle Bar, Total Toffee Truffle Bar, and Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar – 2.5 oz each (Full-Size!), value: $3.50 each = $10.50

I fell in love with these chocolate bars at first sight. I’m a sucker for good packaging and design, and finding these beauties in my box made my day. Additionally, the actual chocolate is absolutely amazing. I can usually do without milk chocolate but this one literally melts in your mouth and is so rich that just one of the four segments of the bar is a whole dessert itself. Even the dark chocolate (which is what I usually reach for to satisfy my sweet tooth) is ridiculously smooth and creamy. Needless to say, the toffee bar is great as well. These are my favorite items in this month’s box! (Could you tell?)

Verdict: Obviously, I’m thrilled to have discovered this new (favorite) brand of chocolate, but I’m not quite as thrilled with the overall Treatsie Box as a whole. The total value comes out to $23.50, which I’m happy with, but I feel like Treatsie has done a lot better with the variety of products before than they have for the last three months. My all-time favorite Treatsie box was their April Box, which was filled with cakes, cookies, crunchy peanut butter treats… All sweets I hadn’t tried and some I hadn’t even heard of before. These last three months have seemed to mostly include chocolate bars and solid caramel candies. I’m hoping they start incorporating more unique and varied treats again really soon.

I also want to emphasize the effort Treatsie puts into their shipping in these hot months: they ship their boxes with a cold pack, inside an insulated envelope. Not a single item has melted for me all summer, and I definitely respect them more for this extra thought and effort.

What do you think of this month’s Treatsie sweets? Have you tried this chocolate before?

This was my first box from Treatsie. I love caramel and chocolate, so from the perspective, I was happy. And those hard candies were delicious. But I don’t understand why the duplicated brands when they had the opportunity to mix things up. Yes, all three chocolate bars were wonderful, but I would have preferred just one, and they could have sent two other brands/types of treats instead. Same with the caramel.

I’m subscribing for at least one more month, but this sub will become a lot less appealing if they don’t mix things up a bit.

They seem to feature only three candy shops/makers per box, so that’s why I they send multiple items of the same brand (I guess). I would also appreciate variety. This box totally made up for last months. The chocolate was excellent and probably more appealing to a greater amount of people than last months. The caramels were good but I am a caramel fan. The packaging was cute. My husband liked the hard candies more than I did but they were still good. There’s something for everyone in this box. Their packaging makes this box worth it…each month my ice pack arrives completely melted and warm, but my candy is not! I assume it did it’s job for the trip to Florida. For new subscribers, they have previously had coupons for a free box (just pay $5 shipping) so keep an eye out for that!

This month’s box was so much better than June. The chocolate was delicious…the toffee was my favorite. I do agree, though, that I’m getting bored with the caramels. I’m also not a big caramel fan and they have been sending a whole lot of those lately. Some variety would be nice.

I love that they have started to offer an “add to box” feature where you can add some select treats to your upcoming monthly subscription box. I wish they would allow for anything from their online store to be added to the box, not just a few select items, but it’s a start. Sometimes I just want one or two things, but I don’t purchase it because I don’t want to pay shipping. Having the option to send it with my other monthly items would encourage me to try new things and would give us control over some of the variety of items in our box.

I agree, the packaging is so much! But definitely needed for these hot months (especially since I live in Houston, Texas). My first box I was like woah this is such a HUGE package!
