Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September

Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription box for men. Their lifestyle items tend to be formal (think ties, cufflinks, etc), so keep that in mind when subscribing!

This month Birchbox Man collaborated with Bonobos.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card that details each item included in your box for that month.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September 2014 Hue

Dear Clark Shampoo – 1 oz Value $3

Hue Pomade – .5 oz Value $7

(These samples are pretty small so I added a quarter to the photo to show scale). The Dear Clark shampoo is made with organic and natural ingredients, and safe for color-treated hair. I might steal it, but I think my husband will like it too. It does have a very strong natural scent though!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September 2014 Field Notes

Field Notes 3 Pack with Pens – Value $12

We get a lot of notebooks in subscription boxes, but I think my husband will use these – he liked a Field Notes notebook from another subscription box.

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September 2014 Eye Cream

SmartSkin A27 Anti-Aging Eye Cream – .16 oz Value $40

I’m surprised that this little sample is worth so much! (The full size version retails for $125). I know my husband will have no interest in eye cream so I will be using this sample!

Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review - September 2014 Anchors

Bonobos Anchor Chief Pocket Square – Value $42

This is another very nice item my husband would never use. (I wish there was a way to completely opt out of the more formal items Birchbox Man sends. We filled out the survey, but it doesn’t seem to do much good besides not sending him shaving items since he has a beard).

Verdict: We paid $20 for this box and received about $104 worth of items. To be honest, when I first looked at the box contents I would not have guessed it was such a high-value box. My husband won’t use all the items, but I’ll use the eye cream which should make this box worth it for us. And if you have any ideas for how I can use the pocket square let me know!

What did you get from Birchbox Man this month?

  1. I say collect all of the items you know you won’t use from all of your subscriptions and have a quarterly blog sale, or ebay bonanza of separate items or collections of items.

  2. I ordered a Birchbox Man after you posted this. I love Field Notes and my significant other can always use more pomade. Unfortunately, the only thing that I got in mine that’s the same as yours is the pocket square. 🙁

  3. I use

    • *I use pocket squares to make my plain purses a little more dressy. I love tying one around the handle and having a whole new look.

  4. I have seen Barbie clothes made from vintage women hankies. This pocket square would be cute as a Barbie dress.

  5. My 15 year old son received his first Birchbox. He received the Baxter of California Deodorant, Bill Jealousy White Knight Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser, English Laundry Rivera Eau de Toilette which he loves the scent, Bonobos Anchor Chief Pocket Square, and the Riada by Adair Tie Bar. He is going to use the pocket square and tie bar as gifts. He’s really happy with it and been trying out his items.

  6. I have been thinking about getting this box for my hubby but he rarely uses cologne and he also has sensitive skin. He doesn’t need hair products but with his Job he always needs paper and pens and someone keeps walking off with them! :–D Oops guilty.

The Funny thing is that he keeps peaking at my Birchbox when it comes and he likes surprises.

If anyone knows of a cooking subscription lemme know. I can subscribe and save it for Christmas. He loves kitchen gadgets. That’s something I’ll have to look in to.

    • I know that Fancy has a culinary box and Quarterly has Andrew Zimmern box (that one looks good! I know my partner loves cooking, and I’m likely to sign him up for that for his birthday)

  7. Love the pocket square! I often use bandanas or other pieces of cloth as gift wrap. That pattern would be perfect for that!

  8. That’s such a great design for a pocket square (I’m originally from a shore town). I’m hoping my husband get that one in his Birchbox. You have no other friends who like boating?
