Beauty Box 5 Review & 50% Off Coupon - July 2014 Card

Each Beauty Box 5 box comes with an informational card detailing each item in your box for that month, as well as a short paragraph on the monthly theme. This month’s is “Defining Moments.”

Beauty Box 5 Review & 50% Off Coupon - July 2014 Revlon

Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara – Full Size!, value: $7.99

$1 off coupon for Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara

This mascara has been in so many subscription boxes this summer! I can always use more mascaras, so I was glad to see this in my box.

 Beauty Box 5 Review & 50% Off Coupon - July 2014 H20

H2O + Bath Aquatics Shampoo – 1.25 fl oz, value: $2.35

Body Drench Candy Licious Lips in Cotton Candy - .09 oz (full size), value: 3.99

Cotton Candy isn’t really a flavor/scent I use, so this lip balm will get passed along! (I estimated the value of the shampoo based off of the full-size price on H2O+’s website, which is $16, not $10 as listed on the informational card.)

Beauty Box 5 Review & 50% Off Coupon - July 2014 Nicka K

HASK Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment – 1.75 oz, value: $2.49

Nicka K New York Nail Color in Ripe Apple - full-size, value: $4.99

I’m generally a big fan of argan oil products, so I’m looking forward to trying this hair treatment. This brand of polish is new to me, but it’s formaldehyde-free and I like the brush, so I’m going to keep it!

The Verdict: I liked this month’s Beauty Box 5 box. I know I found a couple new brands and products that I haven’t tried before, and that’s my favorite part of subscription boxes! I’m going to use most of the items, so that’s a win for me. The value this month comes to about $22, which I think is a really nice deal for a $12 box ($8.25 with annual subscription).

What are your thoughts on this box? Have you tried the mascara, or other items here before?

I heard BB5 is working on better doing better but most people rather really love or hate them. July was good but this month is unbelievable. I got between $50-60 value with 3 full size items. Better then Birchbox and Sample Society, although they do have better brands. They offered the half off box starting last month and now this month was great so I think they are working on getting business. Let’s hope they keep improving! 🙂

I know this is for July but I received my August box and I’m thrilled!

This month had a great BB5 with the full sizes. I’m impressed!! 🙂

What do you guys think of the box and did you receive the same items?

I just cancelled this sub box, I think I will try out the Allure for only a few dollars more per month, it looks like better stuff. Am not impressed with this company as a whole or the contents of the box.
Robin- you can call your credit card company and dispute the charge- they will take care of everything for you!

Did you (and Liz for last month) get the same red Nicka K nail polish for June and July, or is it a different shade of red Nicka K? Either way that’s weird of Beauty Box 5 to include such a similar product for both June and July.

I got the argan oil treatment, Miss Jessie’s multicultural curls in a foil packet (not sure I’m the best user for such an item but oh well), the lip balm in a lime flavor, the body scrub (I usually just use these on my arms so I’ll get a couple of uses out of it), and the mascara. I did join at the end of the month, though, and may have gotten some leftovers. Honestly, for $12 (I didn’t use any codes and I just signed up month-to-month), I’m fine with it. The foil packets were bigger than any packets I ever got from Birchbox and the mascara is full-sized. So I think I got my money’s worth. I’ll stick with it for awhile.

FYI, BB5 is offering two different one-off collections for $39, with full size products. One is the Hollywood Glam (a la Marilyn Monroe) and the other is Classic Hollywood (of the Audrey Hepburn variety). Looks like a great deal, though I’m sure there’s a risk of getting dupes from past boxes. They had a “mega makeup mystery box” earlier this week for $100 but they only offered 25 of them and are sold out now.

I got the Marilyn Monroe box, and that was a pretty good one. Couple products I don’t know if I’ll use, but good all around. But I also got one of those mega mystery boxes, and I honestly am not sure if it was worth it. It came with a couple little brushes, a very dark cream-ish blush, a moisturizer, 2 eyeliners and an eyeshadow quad. Plus it took 3 weeks to get here because they over-labeled it for shipping. But all in all, I’m sure other people thought it was really good because it had higher end brands, I’m just kind of indifferent.

Glad you had better luck with this company! My experience was terrible. I got a gift code from a friend, but didn’t think the box was worth $12 so I emailed them July 3 to cancel. They charged my credit card anyway weeks later and after multiple emails, they are refusing to refund the charge even though it hasn’t been shipped yet and I told them I would be returning it. I’ve never dealt with a more difficult company!

this is NOT the box I got in July for BB5. I cancelled and won’t be going back.

I absolutely hate Beauty Box 5. I’ve received a few boxes here and there, and I never am pleased. Yeah, the mascara in this box was cool, but like you said, I already got it in another sub. Looking at past unboxings of this sub for the last year, it reaffirms that I won’t ever like this box. Lots of brands that I could get at Ross or TJ Maxx for cheap, big foil packets, and nothing special.

I canceled a $15 subscription to another box and signed up for this one. I don’t mind drugstore products and I like that some items are full-sized. Because I joined only about a week ago, I don’t have mine yet, but it should be here this week (sitting at the DHL hub in Forest Park, GA, but that is less than 30 minutes’ drive from here so it won’t be long, now).

I didn’t use a code because I’d seen that some people who signed up to get free or 50% off boxes ended up with random “best of” boxes that included that Secret Clinical Strength deodorant. (That stuff gives me a rash.) I hope I get some variation on the box being reviewed as I think I would be happy with it. Although I don’t need more red nailpolish, I’m wearing the Lauren B Beauty red from another box right now! And I have 4 or 5 others that are very similar.

I canceld my subscription – but now I’m thinking I should resubscribe …. Any idea if this coupon would work on resubscriptions ? I tried using it, yet I did not see a place to enter the coupon code

I think it’s all a matter of perspective whether you enjoy a given sub box. And what you pay has a definite impact too. I only paid $6/mo for my sale priced 3 month sub. I got the mascara, the cotton candy lip balm (which I found cute and kind of tasty), the body scrub (that I somehow managed to get all of it out and it was more than enough for a single use), a Starlooks lip liner in a fantastic neutral shade that perfectly matches my natural lip color (how lip liner is best used, matching the lips versus a lipstick color), and the Argan oil packet (tried it last night and it’s pretty good, even for oily-prone hair-I’m still a hair oil skeptic for that reason). For the price of the mascara alone, it was more than what I paid for the month. So yes, it was a good value. Far better than anything I’ve ever gotten collectively from BB – 3 full size products? I’m sold.

I really enjoy this box. I just start on subscription and it’s addicted. The only complaint about this package is it took forever to get her. I got two full size product and decent samples. I think it walked here.

This was my first month of Beauty Box 5 and I hated it… This is the first time I have ever NOT liked a subscription box. I got the argan oil packet you got, and the mascara. I also got the lip balm but in grape flavor that smells exactly like Dimetapp (blechhh), a pot of walnut body scrub that is literally smaller than the body of an Essie nail polish (not even sure how I’m going to get all the product out because my finger barely fits in the container!), and a lip liner in a dark wine color that I already have three of from previous boxes this summer. In addition, I had a coupon code that my first box was supposed to be free, and they charged me for it anyway. Like I said, I usually like at least one or two things in a box .. this is the first time I have ever been disappointed by an entire box. 🙁
