Treatsie Review & Free Box Coupon - June 2014 Card

Treatsie Review & Free Box Coupon - June 2014 Chocolate

Olive & Sinclair Buttermilk White Chocolate – 2.75 oz, value: $7

Olive & Sinclair Sea Salt Dark Chocolate – 2.75 oz, value: $7

I was happy to see two full-size chocolate bars in this month’s Treatsie box. However, I just don’t think I’m a fan of these specifically. I’m not crazy about white chocolate to begin with, but I found it to be a less creamy white chocolate and it had much brighter notes to it – It was almost borderline tangy. I’m an avid lover of sea salt and dark chocolate, but I thought there was either too much salt or the chocolate itself was so dark that it wasn’t sweet enough to counter the sea salt. I loved taking bites of this with some fresh cherries I had around, but on its own it didn’t work for me.

Treatsie Review & Free Box Coupon - June 2014 Taffy

Salty Road Bergamot Salt Water Taffy – 3.5 oz, value: $7

Brittle Brothers Gourmet Cashew Brittle – 3 oz, value: $5

Salt Water Taffy isn’t my thing, so this beautiful box will be gifted to a friend!

The Verdict: Treatsie’s price value for this month’s box is spot-on at $26, and I’m happy with that value. I really want to like this month’s box – and I’m sure there are people who love it – but unfortunately it just didn’t match my taste this time around.

Which item did you like best in this month’s Treatsie box? Do you agree or disagree with me about the chocolate bars?

Hi,

I agree with the commenters that the chocolate tasted odd. I love chocolate and I’ve had a lot of different and combinations, but I really did not like the buttermilk in the white chocolate. I also did not like the bergamot taffy. The cashew brittle was the best thing in the box. I was sad too because Treatsie is the only “food” box I get every month and I’m always super excited to get it, but I was disappointed when I didn’t like more than half the box. Sniffle. Hopefully this month is better.

The brittle was good, the taffy was good. However for the first time in my life I spit chocolate out. The dark with sea salt was hideous. Way to salty, if you are going to have that much salt, it should of been a sweeter chocolate. But the salt and the bitter chocolate was very off. The white I didn’t hold much hope out for after the dark…and mine was very dry/chalky tasting and I am not a fan of buttermilk (except in biscuits and fried chicken) but it tasted like chocolate made with spoiled milk.

I cancelled my subscription for a little while :/ which disappointed me because I was excited about this box

This was my first month with Treatsie too, and I was saving the chocolate to eat, but after reading this review I had to go try it! And oh my god! Sadness. I was super excited for the white chocolate because I love white chocolate, and it tastes so sour, like they used spoiled buttermilk. It is completely unedible. And the dark chocolate is honestly like licking a plate of salt. This is a major dissapointment. And the taffy was so weird a flavor, and not a pleasing texture at all. Treatsie boxes always look so good! I dont understand what happened here at all.

Amazingly, I haven’t tried the chocolate bars yet. But, with all the bad reviews, that’s probably a good thing. I am not a taffy person. However, I received the vanilla flavor and thought it was quite good. It was mild but a bit salty and made with real vanilla beans. I would definitely recommend this particular flavor to others. I gave my dad the cashew brittle. He LOVED it and said it was the best brittle he had tried in his entire life. Considering he’s 69, that’s a great recommendation! So, I guess I’m about 50/50 on what I received. I’m going to give them one more try next month (since they have already charged my card).

My entire family agreed that the chocolate was gross. The other items were just okay. I hope next month is better.

I was so excited to get this box. Sampled everything as soon as I got it. Sat there & was left sad. Maybe I’m not a fancy treats person? The only thing I ate in its entirety was the brittle. LOVE the brittle. The bergamot taffy was not okay & the little pieces of salt in each bite threw me off. I looked at the other taffy options & maybe I would like the others? The chocolate bars were horrid. I couldn’t even pretend to like it. The packaging was cool though. I will give them another month because I saw on their IG they were in New York @ the Fancy Food Show. Surely something good can come from that!

Those chocolate bars were horrid. I can’t imagine anyone liking the white chocolate one…

I was happy to get chocolate, then I got depressed when I bit into that white chocolate bar.

I totally agree with Haley on the chocolate! Something was just off with both the taste and texture. I am a fan of both white chocolate and salted chocolate but did not either of these. The texture was chalky, almost like baking chocolate. The taste was somewhat tangy. Not for me. I did like the other 2 items. I received peppermint taffy and it was interestingly good. There were chunks of sea salt in it which was new for me. I want to try their mango lassi flavor. The brittle was delicious. My husband tried it while he was sipping bourbon and that ended up being a great pairing. This is my second month with treatsie and I’m overall happy for the variety and surprise factor but I’m disappointed I didn’t like half the value of this box.

I got this month by accident (I didn’t cancel in time and they billed me for a new month) and I’m pretty upset that I stuck with them. I didn’t like last month’s box and this one was just as bad. The chocolate is inedible to me, I’m not a taffy fan and I didn’t even really like the brittle. Disappointed.

Last month was my last month with Treatsie, and when I saw this month’s items, I wasn’t too disappointed. I don’t like white chocolate or salt water taffy, and Brittle Brothers is a repeat of January’s box. I wonder if everyone received Brittle Brothers. I did discover a few great finds through Treatsie, though, and would like to purchase them in the future from the Treatsie shop.

Haley Faye wrote this?! Lol now I’m wondering how many authors are on this site. It was a great and well written review! If I hadn’t noticed the author tidbit, I’d’ve thought it was Liz! Very similar reviewing styles 🙂 Great to see that Liz is expanding. I can’t even imagine how many hours go into this site. I love it so much!

I like saltwater taffy but bergamot is a weird flavor choice. I hate Earl Grey tea specifically because of the bergamot flavor.

Sometimes Treatsie is tempting but then I realize I could just go make a couple of batches of cookies or brownies or chocolate-covered almonds myself (I keep my pantry well-stocked with baking ingredients) to satisfy my sweet tooth.
