Stitch Fix Subscription Review - June 2014 Box

Stitch Fix is a monthly styling subscription service. When you sign up you take a pretty in-depth survey about your sizes, your style, and pricing preferences, and then your personal stylist sends you 5 items to try once a month. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)

FYI – My items are reflective of my style and price preferences, so your Stitch Fix may be completely different!

Each box comes with cards with styling suggestions for every piece, plus a letter from your stylist. (FYI – my box this month is all dresses and skirt because after last month I decided no tops, and updated my profile. Golden Tote tends to send out lots of tops as surprise items, so I didn’t need any more!)

I love the coral and white stripe colors of this dress, and it fit perfectly too. The only thing I’m trying to figure out is if the ruching at the waist is flattering or not. I may end up keeping this one – I think I need to try it on again!

Under Skies Rho Mixed Chevron Sleeveless Dress – Cost to Keep $58

This dress is lovely, and fits pretty well (it’s just a bit loose, but I’m guessing it will fit perfectly once it goes through the laundry). The only issue I have is the length – it’s a little too long for me.

What’s weird is that this is the same brand as the first dress that fit me really well, but this one is super loose in the torso. Back it goes!

I’m a little disappointed to get another maxi skirt since I just got one in my last fix – and I keep asking for maxi dresses! This one is a super thin fabric too, so back it goes.

Gilli Kamile Jersey Ruched Detail Dress – Cost to Keep $58

This dress is extremely flattering, and I may end up keeping it. I do have so many similar dresses though, so I’m not sure how often I’d wear it.

Verdict: The only issue I’m realizing with this Fix, is that for me, these are somewhat classic/preppy looks, and I’ve requested only Bohemian Chic and Casual Chic items, with an emphasis on not wanting anything for business casual/work, or cocktails/special occasions.  (I’m going for more of a Free People / Golden Tote look). I just went back to my survey and updated it again with specific comments about my preferences, so I’m hoping that helps for my July fix – my stylist did respond very well to my other requests for this month.  Also, to be fair, these dresses may be casual chic to most people and just not me. (And it’s not that I don’t like classic/preppy looks – it’s just that after working at ModCloth for 4 years with an amazing employee discount, I have more fancy and adorable dresses in my closet with tags on them than I will ever wear!)

I know first hand that its not that the stylist doesn’t read what you want it’s because inventory could be lean the day your stylist gets your request & is doing his/her very best to meet your needs based on what ur asking for & what’s available & is met with a time crunch bc of when ur box is due to be shipped 😉 Also it’s so popular now that there’s little kinks that have o get ironed out 😉 keep requesting it will only get better & better 😉

    • I believe your comments. My most recent fix arrived yesterday, and it’s the best one yet. I still have a hard time swallowing some of the prices of the pieces, but I know I’m paying for convenience in there too. Everything fit really well (that was never really a problem). They were items that I could easily incorporate into my current wardrobe.
      I always Google the items as soon as they post that my package has shipped. I was bummed about the tops when I saw them online. Then they arrived, I tried them on, and my opinion has changed. So cute! I really need to stop peeking lol! The tops are Tabitha Embellished Cotton Shirt and Daryn Floral Print Jersey Top. Pictures do not do them justice.
      careful what you wish for ladies. Now I want to keep the entire box!

  2. Ah, Stitch Fix. The service that could be SO awesome if they’d hire (or properly train) “stylists” that were driven by customer satisfaction. I also asked for a maxi dress in my last fix but got a skirt instead. Does anyone know if the stylists work on commission? Preferably not by dollar amount, but I’m thinking like: customer buys 2 items, they get such-and-such a kickback, customer buys 3 and it increases, and so on. Maybe that would encourage them to really consider the feedback, the requests, and the Pinterest boards?
    With that said, I continue to get Fixes and recently upped my price points from “the cheaper the better” to a variety of prices to see what I get. Fingers crossed. It’s still a fun service! If they continue to simply be overpriced and barely my style, I’m considering trying Keaton Row (which is free).

  3. I have had three fixes so far (I believe anyway) and the first two were dead on but the last one was probably not a good fit for me. I try to give detailed feedback to my stylist every fix and write down everything that I liked or disliked. I really think it helps her and she listens quite well. I got a beautiful maxi dress that actually fit me and didn’t drag on the ground (I am 5’4”). I also found two pairs of jeans that fit my body type perfectly and make me feel sexy. I think Stitch Fix is a really fun box to have because you don’t need to buy anything if you don’t feel like it’s worth it. I think it’s nice too because I hate shopping and it puts a little joy into my shopping experience.

  4. I love the first and second dresses! I got my first fix last week, and it was a total bomb. My profile and Pinterest boards were pretty clear, too – or so I thought! I revamped them though, and I have another fix coming in two weeks. I also requested a new stylist – that’s how far off the mark mine was!

    • Mine was a dud too – I thought they’d ‘listen’ to my likes/dislikes more than my Pinterest board. I felt like I was serviced by a robot who can not read the comments on things I’d pinned 🙁

  5. My Fix was scheduled to deliver yesterday, and didn’t come! So bummed. I can’t wait to see my first box!!

  6. I love the last dress! Everything that I got on my last fix was super wrinkly and it looks like yours were a bit too! That really bugged me. Lol

Your Fix is worlds better than mine have been, especially the most recent, which was so bad I wrote to support to complain that the latest stylist didn’t seem to have read any of the feedback I’d ever given. I have just pinned the blue print dress and the green dress you got, so maybe I’ll get one or both next time…

  9. I love the dresses you received. I wanted classic items, but got two boho-style tops, a maxi skirt (I wanted a maxi dress), a striped fit and flare dress (wanted patterns) and a chunky necklace. I’m not impressed for my first fix, especially since I Pinned a lot of things from other people’s fixes hoping to get them and nothing on my board was boho.

  11. I LOVE that first dress. I actually got this in my fix this month but it was too small 🙁 I was soooo disappointed as I really wanted to keep. You have to keep this for me 😉

  12. I have realized that you have to be super specific with your profile. My last fix looked like it was for fall (it was june 3rd.) I scheduled another fix for the 18th requesting only maxi skirts and dresses. Hopefully they will listen. If I get another awful fix, I am switching to golden tote. I hate losing my $20 styling fee when I have to send everything back.
