  1. I’m so glad I dropped birchbox last year! Even the points system doesn’t make up for the teeny tiny samples. BB was great at first when there was nothing else out there, but they haven’t evolved / stayed competitive with the subs that deliver deluxe and full size samples. Just not worth it.

  2. I received:
LAQA & Co Lip Crayon – no color listed
    SarahPotempa Hair Up styling tool
Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner – no color listed, but looks black
    English Laundry perfume sample
    Perlier Shea Butter Body Balm

I’m generally not a fan of anything for the lips, but lately I’ve been loving the lip crayons. Not excited about the rest of the stuff, but I can put the body balm in my bag for quick hand cream.

    • My lip crayon purple. I don’t think that I could never pull off with my pale skin. I would probably look like the walking dead.

  3. I just received a few foils of the Egyptian Magic cream with my last BirchBox order. For those interested, they are super tiny!

    • I got my June box today and it had the Egyptian Magic sample in it. A small tub, no foil packets this time. Also got the Cynthia rowley lip stain- it’s a small cute tube.

  4. Ooohhhhh! Caudalie Serum! I love their other products but haven’t tried the anti wrinkle serum before. Really just hoping I don’t receive a fragrance, Sample Society is sending me two fragrances and three moisturizers this month so I’m not interested in receiving any more this month.

    • How do you find out what you’re getting from Sample Society so early? I can see last month’s products in my account and if I go to order history, I can see that I’m getting Kit A but not what’s inside it.

      • I’m getting Kit D this month but makeuptalk.com already has the contents for kit D and a few other kits in the Sample Society June 2014 Spoiler forum thread.

  5. The products themselves are great. I would be excited to see them together if they were coming from anyone but BB, because the samples they send are always SO TINY! I predict at least one, maybe two foils (Caudalie for sure based on full size price point and maybe for the Perlier), a standard freebie-size perfume sample, a deluxe size Egyptian Magic lotion and maybe a full size lip stain. CS keeps saying “next month we’re sending large/deluxe samples. Look out for some great full size surprises!” Except I haven’t gotten any so far in almost a year (have an annual sub). I’m a beauty products junkie so I tend to be familiar with the majority of brands they send (surprise brands for me tend to come from the organic/natural subs), and really they’re not that “new” so I never agree with the “introducing customers to high end products” line of reasoning. I get similar quality products from ipsy, who really has upped the ante the past few months in terms of brand quality (at least in my bags) and the majority are full size or at least deluxe size products. The only reason I subbed to BB was to earn points since I do like shopping the regular site. So I will keep reminding myself of that when my itty bitty box gets here!

    • I feel the same way, and have really only stuck with Birchbox because of the points system. Here’s a pro tip: When you purchase a monthly BB subscription (for $10), you get 10 points, but then they rebill you for $10 each month and you don’t get points for it. Unlike Ipsy, BB doesn’t have a waiting period, so what I do is just unsubcribe when I get my box and then resubcribe a couple weeks later. I get 10 extra BB points per month that way, or just skip months I’m not interested in! =]

      • I noticed that — I canceled for awhile, then resubscribed and didn’t get waitlisted. (Granted, my original time on their waitlist was a couple of hours only — they *did* have a waitlist when I joined but it wasn’t ridiculous like with Ipsy.) I had 10 points in my account from the original sub and 10 from the new sub.

Though I echo the waiting a couple of weeks. Both times I subscribed, it was near the end of the month and I got a random leftover box-o-stuff within a few days, then a new box the next month.

      • oh man I should do that too! I was doing this for glossybox for awhile, just waiting for the spoiler to see if I wanted the box. But I think I have officially cancelled my glossybox for good, I actually really didn’t like the BG box except for the gift card

  6. I’d like to try the Egyptian cream & the body cream. I’m a sucker for lotion/creams. I also ordered the Modern Mermaid box with my points. Can’t wait to get both!

  7. This month’s spoilers make me wish I had a subscription. I’ve wanted to try Egyptian Magic ever since Costco started carrying it. They usually buy pretty high quality stuff. In general this subscription hasn’t as much as some others but this month looks really good.

    • I’ve received the Egyptian Magic stuff in a previous BB. The sample is really small, but it is awesome. I hope I get it again.

  8. I’m due for a fragrance sample this month, I think. I’ve learned to like them well enough. Birchbox seems to think I want body lotion every month and I haven’t gotten this cream yet so I suspect I’ll see that. They also like to send me serums and anti-aging stuff (maybe 36 is old for them?). Don’t really need any lip colors at the moment so I’d prefer not to get that. And I really hope they don’t send me anything for my hair because they always get that wrong. (Also, please no gummy vitamins because I am a vegetarian and can’t take them.) I guess I’m not excited about the sneak peek, but I’m also not bummed out. It could still be a great box for me this month.

    • Technically 36 is in the target demographic range for anti-aging products since dermatologists recommend introducing them to your beauty routine in your early 30s as a preventative measure. I’m 38 this year and have been doing facial injectables (Dysport) for over 4 years and have been using anti-aging products since age 30. So while I absolutely agree that mid to late 30s definitely isn’t old (they’ll pry my 30s from my cold, dead hands thank you very much, lol!) anti-aging products are aimed at the “early intervention” demographic in their mid 30s. I guess it’s like they always say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure 😉

      • One more little surprise in the mid-30s: patients are considered “advanced maternal age” for pregnancy purposes at 35 and older!

        • Eh, well, I hate kids and don’t intend to ever have any. So that’s not an issue. The only reason I’m using any anti-aging products is because I get them in a lot of boxes, so I figure I should try them out.

I stay out of the sun (and don’t drink much, don’t smoke, etc.) and regularly get mistaken for someone much younger. Which is good, I guess, because I am pretty sure I would never voluntarily get anything injected into my face.

At any rate, the world would be pretty boring if we were all the same. The options are there for people who want them.

          • Like you, I was often mistaken for someone younger. People would guess my age around 24 when I was really 34.

I’m 37 now and it seems the last 2 years have aged me really fast. I stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen, but suddenly I’ve noticed these dark spot patches. My pores look bigger and my skin texture is rough on my cheeks instead of smooth

        • Oh man, I hear ya!! I was literally ONE month into 35 for my due date and they still required that I get genetic counseling during my pregnancy (I declined the actual testing though.) Both baby & I are perfectly healthy. 🙂

      • I am turning 36 in a couple months and I use anti-aging skincare like a fiend. 🙂

I do also stay out if the sun, eat well (also a veggie and cook nearly everything from scratch), workout (belly dancer), and all that. No wrinkles yet and I’d like to keep them at bay as long as possible cause I’m vain like that lol!

  9. BB and Beauty DNA are my faves right now. I cancelled Glosssybox and Sample Society and New Beauty test tube.

  10. The Egyptian Magic….although it looks like something you’d find on the bottom shelf at CVS next to the cold creams.

  11. I got the Perlier body cream in last month’s box. The formula was okay, but the scent isn’t great for summer.

    • I also got the Perlier in my May box – hoping not to get a repeat – I’ve only had BB 2 months – June is my 3rd month.

  12. I cashed out my points and canceled last month, I’m just Birchboxed out for now. Nothing here makes me regret it this month! Good luck to all the current subbers though. 🙂
