Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May

Lately I’ve been buying two Golden Totes each month – I know I have a Golden Tote/maxi problem. (Check out my other May tote review too!)

Also, I know there have been some requests for me to model the clothes instead of my dress form. I’m currently wearing a cast-boot due to a broken toe, and I’m in major need of some self- tanner, but if things improve by the time the June tote shows up we’ll see! 🙂

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (I bought two of the $149 totes this month, so there will be another review posted soon!) FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

The Box: Golden Tote

The Cost: $49 or $149 (This review is of the $149 box)

The Products: Clothing items you pick plus surprises from Golden Tote!

Ships to: Everywhere! Shipping to the continental US $7.95. AK HI $15 and international is $25

First up, the two items I picked out:

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Strapless Maxi

Easy Embroidered Maxi – Value $68

Usually by the time I write a Golden Tote review all the items I picked are sold out – but not this time! This dress is still available in size medium and large!

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Detail

I normally don’t wear strapless dresses, but I loved the embroidery detailed bodice and the bright emerald green skirt on this dress! I also think it’s a piece I can easily dress up or down.

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Green Maxi

Classic Puella Maxi – Value $68

I got this dress in blue in my other tote, and in the other review I was complaining about the fabric being a little see through. (I think I figured out the perfect solution though – layering the two maxis! It gives me enough coverage so that I don’t have to wear a slip underneath, and I actually like the layered look!)

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Puella Shirt

Priddy by Puella Swing Top – Value $50?

FYI – All Priddy by Puella items are made exclusively for the totes! I love the colors of this top and how soft it is – if I could change anything about it I’d make it slightly less tent-y. (But it will look great with fitted jeans).

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Shirt Dress

Naked Zebra Shirt/Tunic/Dress? Value $60?

Judging from the swaps section, this surprise item came in a few different colors – and I feel like I lucked out getting it in black! It will either make a short dress (swimsuit cover up) for me, or a tunic.

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 White Maxi

Love Stitch White Cotton Maxi – Value $90

I love this dress! It’s lined, but even with the lining I think I’ll still need a slip underneath. I think it has a very flattering cut too. (I’m ignoring the fact that my husband told me it looked like I was wearing a bed sheet).

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 top

Paint Splatter Top – Value $40?

Golden Tote Review Part 2 - May 2014 Top Detail

I’m not crazy about the color of this top with my skin tone, but I do love the detail braid!

Verdict: Unfortunately this tote was another success – which probably means my two-tote-a-month habit isn’t ending anytime soon! What do you think of the pieces? Were you happy with Golden Tote this month?

  1. Hi liz i have a question! .. when you order two totes from the same month, do you risk the chance of getting repeats for your suprise items.? i see you never have gotten repeats when you buy two.

    • Nope – they won’t send you repeats if you buy the totes in the same order! 🙂

  2. I just signed up for golden tote a few days ago and cannot wait until it arrives. Thanks to your totes I will be not so patiently waiting for mine to get here. Do the totes usually arrive at a certain time of the month? I saw that you’re in Pittsburgh as well which has been giving me a pretty good idea of when my other subscriptions will be arriving. 🙂

  3. I got my first tote this month and LOVE.IT. I chose the Puella maxi and the pleated print top and threw in the embroidered kimono as an add-on. My surprise items were grey tunic/dress and Renee C tunic from your review #1, and the sheer black tunic from this one. Also got the paint splatter top, but mine is a black base, which I really prefer over the white you received. Can’t wait to see what they’ll have for June! 🙂

    • Sounds like a great tote! I’m so glad to hear your first Golden Tote experience was a good one!

  4. I like the white maxi! Needs a dark skinny belt.

  5. Gracias for posting this! The surprise items look amazing! Do you mind sharing with pic did you used for this tote? I changed mine for the one that has Sienna Miller (although thats not my style at all) and regret it to the point I had to return my tote 🙁 I absolutely adore the white dress.

  6. I hadn’t seen some of these items yet! I just got mine today with the romper. In all the pictures I’ve seen the fabric pattern matches up on both leg holes, but mine doesn’t. I sent an email right away but I’m not sure how quickly they’ll get back to me. Hopefully it’s soon since I leave on Saturday to remote internet access. I’m not sure if it’s worth sending it back though….
