Mantry Review – Gourmet Food Subscription Box – July 2013
Mantry is a gourmet food subscription service that sources their food from local artisan makers primarily in the US. Two of the things that set Mantry apart? 1) They ship their boxes in wooden crates. 2) This food subscription is geared toward men. It’s the priciest food subscription box I know of, but with the packaging and curation, it definitely is a special box. We’ve been subscribing for a few months now and I’m very happy with the food quality and selection. (I just wish they could get their price down a little or offer a discount if you sign up for a 6-month subscription!)
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that they have upgraded the wooden crates! I guess it’s more of a wooden box now. I like the redesign a lot, and this box will definitely get reused for storage.
The Box: Mantry
The Cost: $75
The Products: The Modern Man’s Pantry: a Food of the Month Club that helps you discover American artisan food.

Each box comes with a card detailing the products, including a few recipe suggestions, and giving the backgrounds on the producers of the food! This month’s theme is “Indian Summer.”
Chop Butchery Curry Salami – Value $10
Carolina Plantation Aromatic Rice – Value $5.20
After reading about how amazing this rice smells and tastes, I had to make it with a stir fry for dinner. It’s definitely delicious, and I’m glad there are multiple servings in this bag!
Tipu’s Organic Original Chai Black Tea Concentrate – Value $20?
Granola Lab Tamarind Fusion – Value $9
I couldn’t find the exact value of this black tea concentrate – it looks like the company is phasing out this bottle in attempts to become more eco-friendly. I’m happy to see it’s organic and vegan though – can’t wait to try it!
Verdict: Mantry boxes are always full of delicious food, and items I probably would normally never splurge on, but once they are in my Mantry box I can’t wait to try them! I paid $75 for this box and received about $65 worth of product. This is a very heavy box to ship, and the wooden box is definitely something I will keep and use for storage, so I’m OK with the value. Obviously I would love it if they had a cheaper option, but I will keep subscribing for now! What do you think of the July Mantry Box?
