GLOSSYBOX Subscription Box Review & Coupon Code – May 2013

GLOSSYBOX Subscription Box Review & Coupon Code - May 2013

May’s GlossyBox marks their one-year anniversary as a beauty subscription service in the US!  To celebrate, they included one full-sized product from NY – home of their headquarters!

GLOSSYBOX Subscription Box Review & Coupon Code - May 2013

I know I say it with every review, but Glossy Box has the best packaging – it’s like unwrapping a gift every month. I love it!

GLOSSYBOX Subscription Box Review & Coupon Code - May 2013

The Box: GLOSSYBOX

The Cost: $21 a month (save more with 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription!)

COUPON: Use coupon code WINK to get a free full-sized eyeliner with your first box (expires May 29th)

The Products: Deluxe and full size beauty products.

Etre Belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro Mask – Value $4

European Wax Center Slow It Body Wash and Slow It Body Lotion (4 ml each) – Value $1

European Wax Center Free Wax – Value up to $28

I love that this lotion goes on and dries almost instantly, but still leaves your skin moisturized. The only thing I’m not sure if I love yet is the scent.

This box also came with a card for a free bikini line, eyebrow or underarm treatment at any European Wax Center. I’m counting it toward the value of this box since no purchase is necessary and there are nearly 500 locations in the US.

Nicka K New York Absolute! Perfume Stick in Parc De 59 – FULL SIZE! Value $14.99

I love the clean floral scent of this fragrance – and I’m happy too see a full sized perfume stick in a subscription box!

Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray – 50 mL – Value $7

My Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer – 10 mL Value $11

I am always looking for a good mattifying product – right now I’m just relying on oil-blotting sheets. I tried this My Prime mouisturizer this morning, and so far my face has been shine-free. This is a pretty decent sized sample too – it should last me a week or two!

Amore Pacific Color Control Cushion Compact in Almond Blush – 4 g Value $15

Right now this color is a little too dark for my skin tone, but I’m hoping with summer and some self-tanner I will be using this powder soon!

Verdict: This box has over $70 worth of beauty product (or over $50 if you don’t count the free wax card). I’m definitely happy with the value of the May Glossy Box and I will use every product except maybe the mask – I don’t know why, but these full-face masks creep me out a little bit. If you’ve tried it and recommend it – let me know! What did you think of the May Glossy Box?

  1. Btw, you wrote ‘slot it’ instead of ‘slow it’ =) I tried the mask and it was super creepy to pull out of the bag and unfold. It felt like an alien egg pouch or something haha! But it was alright, it didn’t dry out after like 15 mins. Probably won’t end up buying it since it didn’t seem like it did much. I love your blog, keep it up!!

    • Oops – fixed it – good eye, thanks! And thanks for reading :)

      Liz

  2. I really thought this months box would be special since it’s their anniversary, but I was really disappointed. None of the products/samples in this months box were anything special to me. Hopefully the June box will be better.

  3. This is my first Glossybox and I really liked it! I get ipsy, but like that these products feel like a “treat” for me. I didn’t get the same products though. I got the perfume stick, mask, 2 european wax samples and volupt spray, but then I got an eyeliner & sharpener which I will definitely use. I love the smell of my perfume (Chelsea) and am eager to get my brows waxed for free with the coupon at my local center. Anyway, I have nothing to compare it to other than ipsy and I will continue it another month for sure.

  4. My box was horrible! I wish they had a more complete survey so that they could better match products to us. My perfume gave me a headache through the package, the box, and the shipping container. I made the mistake of signing up for a six month subscription, and now I am afraid I will keep paying for only one product I can use per box (spray gel this time). I love ipsy, and wanted to try something new–big mistake.

  5. I happened to sign up for ipsy when I saw a coupon code for glossybox as after reading the reviews I decided to try both. I noticed perspective is key in the reviews and comments and location plays a part. I realllllly dislike the European wax “coupon” that is their standard promotion. You don’t need a coupon for that deal just need to be a first time customer and I am not so that was a total waste. In comparison since both ipsy and glossybox are my first boxes if it wasn’t for the coupon code of glossybox I would say the box is overpriced and Ipsy is the way better deal, guess we will see in the months going forward.

  6. I got the same box! Really happy about this month’s box ! I love love love these masks! They’re amazing, I have been using them for years – you’ve got to give them a try!

    • Oh, sorry, I meant full-face masks in general. I haven’t tried this particular one.

It’s relaxing, feels like a facial in the comfort of your own home and isn’t messy to clean up! It’s great to carry if you’re going on long flights, makes you look refreshed!

  7. I loved my box this month. The powder is a good match to my skin and the perfume stick smells great.

  8. This is going to my first box, I hope my mine has some different things in there. That powder would be an epic waste on me if I got a dark shade (I’m super pale).

  9. I cancelled Glossybox. I was getting four boxes, and cut it back to just Birchbox and Julep (and skipping Julep this month) both for budget and because I just have too many teeny products right now. :) The Glossybox value is always pretty good, but their website doesn’t work well, their customer service response is abysmal – I had to email them twice and complain publicly on Facebook before they responded to an email – and I don’t like that you can’t get the full size products directly from them.

  10. I got the exact same box. However, my shade (208-Amber Gold) was also (WAY) too dark, but no amount of tanning will make that shade work for me (I’m very fair-skinned). I am going to call to see what can be done. I have to say this is the most underwhelmed I’ve ever been with a glossy box. (I’ve been a subscriber for almost the full year.) The closest Wax Center is over an hour and a half away, so that doesn’t count to the value for me. I have so many primers and mattifiers from subscription boxes. My hair is very straight and doesn’t hold curl, so the spray gel is not for me. The only thing that I liked in the box was the perfume; which I really do love. But the overall value for the box in terms of use of the items for me was no where near the $21. I normally love Glossy Box, so I don’t want to complain but… Ipsy was so much better this month for half the cost.

    • I completely agree with you! I have been getting Glossybox for the entire year and I was SO EXCITED about this anniversary box, thinking it would have some pretty awesome stuff in there…. It’s safe to say I was VERY disappointed with this box… We’ve gotten way nicer boxes in the past with seemingly much nicer products. I hate lotion in packets, it looks so cheap, and most of the other samples were tiny. It’s reminding me of Birchbox and how terrible they have been. Ipsy is honestly stepping up their game A LOT, with some pretty excellent products… and their box is half the price!! Glossybox, you certainly disappointed me this month. (Although this is the first month of the entire past year that I didn’t LOVE my box!)
